I remember talking about how they had cyanescens traits, and we both got spores from the same source that were mislabeled(some I’m just finding out this year🤦🏼 woodlovers problems), and I’m pretty sure he sent them to Alan. Holos culture sounded faster than any of his other cultures, and the offspring that I got are slower🤷🏻WTF!

At this point I just have to say I railed a guy on here a couple of years ago for suggesting cyans, alleni, azzies, were all subs due to emerging ITS sequencing evidence.  I was very wrong and very much a jerk for trying to shut down his posts.  I can't for the life of me remember who it was but I am very sorry for that.

Yep, not bad for an unplanned patch. 275g wet into the dehydrator. Plus a bucket of stem butts and partially colonized leafs and woody debris.  To keep in my pocket while walking the dog, you know.

This patch above was made with one jar of grain( allenii? CloneThat was labeled azurescens from the source🤷🏻)split up between at least three shoe boxes made with alder pellets mixed with a real stinky wet bag of potting soil. Let it colonize on a shelf in the garage for a few weeks. Pulled some weeds from around a hydrant(not all the weeds, just a hole) placed one shoebox of colonized sub on the ground in the bare spot, covered with a shovel full of chips from my chip pile and then I just stomped on it to smash it into the ground. I did water this one a little bit through the summer, but for the most part let it get real dry. Too wet here and they’ll get gnats or some wet rot soil microbe. The sub was made by dumping 20# of pellets, to a bag of potting soil, Kellogg’s brand, and the bag smelled really putrid like it was full of annerobic bacteria(probably the same bacteria i blame for rotting out patches when they get too wet during the summer). It was so wet it was all that was needed to hydrate the pellets, no water added no pasteurization or sterilization. Pretty simple and effective, now that I wrote it down I’ll never be able to recreate it🤣.






I’m noticing some interesting stuff with this subaeruginosa, Started from a print from another patch in my yard. There’s a little bit of variation, tall ones, short ones, normal Carmel colors and some fuller brown ones, some with hard margin, faded margin and no margin around the pelius. I made this patch with a few blocks of wood based spawned to chips, but I did place one fabric pot on here that was spawned with grain inoculated from the plate I germinated the spores on, so I’m wondering if that’s why there’s so much variation. It’s also a real beast, putting out a lot of fruits, so I’d just want to encourage all of you, if your germ plate looks good don’t hesitate to use it, if there’s no need to make transfers there’s no need and you might be loosing something by doing it.

So what's with ovoids? They spread like wildfire last season and can't find them this year. Are they a little pickier then cyans with the cold? Also Caruelscens didn't seem to want to do anything either.

We're back in the mid 50s from a few feet of snow. Expecting another flush and more snow.

Ovoids absolutely ripped in PA and the Northeast this year! We just had some great fall flushes in the PNW as well

I managed to grow ovoids indoors as well by taking the edge of a patch, moving it to a shoebox indoors, casing with 50/50 coco/soil, and they pinned in 3-4 weeks!

That’s amazing, anytime I move anything that even been damp and outside back in the house it gets infested with gnats and springtails.
I think ovoid are even more heat and cold tolerant than the cyans but don’t know their real limits. They seem to be able to dry out and freeze really well.

I feel you. My best suggestion is the good old apple cider vinegar trick. I also flooded my tubs that were infested with a hose and let the water pour over the top, hoping it would remove loose larvae and gnats and it really did help.

For the vinegar I'll take a small cup, fill it half way, add one drop of dish soap to drop the surface tension, then cover it with clear plastic wrap. I'll poke some large holes so they can get in there and leave it near the totes and it helps a bit, within a day you'll see numerous dead ones in the glass.

First Cyan fruits in an outdoor bucket of chips! My intention was to multiply colonized woodchips for eventual deployment in the ground, but to my surprise I found a few fruiting bodies popping up a few weeks ago. I've had many other buckets, pots, planters, trays, etc. over the last 2 years and only recently got anything to fruit (just a few in a planter). This event corresponded with a temperature drop, rain, and the falling of a bunch of big maple leaves. Maybe the leaves created extra humidity (along with the cardboard) in that region in the bucket? Other buckets and trays without the leaves and cardboard have not shown any signs of fruiting yet.

This is correct, technically mushroom cultivation falls under the blanket of actives, other than the gourmets, which for the most part are all grown in wood based subs anyway. No worries tho, glad you shared!
