transfer?

okay.... let's say that a pf jar starts to colonize. on one side of the myc there is contam and on the other side is uncolonized BRF/Verm. if i take myc from the side that is uncolonized and transfer it to sterilized karo/water in sterile conditions will the contam transfer with it?

It depends on the contaminant. You can try it but it's a shot in the dark, most probably you'll be wasting your time ....

It might be better to try to cut off the infected part of the cake and any uncolonized, but that too is not likely to work very well.

it's been in the karo/water for two days now. took off like wildfire and i haven't seen any odd colors mixed in there with the myc so maybe it has worked..... only time will tell i guess. i will keep everyone updated though!

Glad to here your good news!
One other way of salavaging myc from a partially colonized jar is to transfer the better part of the colonized portion and crumble it into about 5 times as much pasteurized substrate like horse poo.

Make sure you leave the part of the myc that is closest to the uncolonized(contamed)portion of the cake just to give you a better chance of transferring less of the spores into the paseurized substrate. The beneficial microbes left behind during pasteurization will hunt down any residual contams and kill them. The high 1/5 spawn to substrate ratio should provide fast colonization and therefore make the myc able to defend itself by the time the pasteurization wears off.

You can then case and fruit or use the colonized substrate to spawn a larger volume of pasteurized substrate.

Good Luck

i like your advice mykey but i don't think i'm ready to do any bulk besides WBS, plus i have like 10 jars going right now (not to mention i'm trying to farm wild species as well) so i think i'll wait to give that a shot, but thank you anyways, it sounds like a killer idea!

it's lipstick mold. there is still a large amount of myc that isn't showing any signs of contam but i'm gonna throw it out just to beon the safe side.
