Experiments with no prep popcorn * 2

Thought I would try a dumbass way of making popcorn. Follow along for the laughs as I waste time and resources!

Starting with an instant pot that only gets to 11-12psi to begin with lol.

Had some good colonized boiled, dry and pc popcorn. A few weeks ago.

Found a google search where a guy used 2c corn and 3/4c water, no prep pc 90min. Thought what the hell….

Here goes:

Pint jars with 1/4” hole and filter patch, foil covered.
1c popcorn - 218g
85g water
Dash gypsum
PC90 min
Hot shake

After the pc and hot shake



After 6hrs the moisture at the bottom is gone.



Doing a g2g transfer tomorrow. Wish me luck!

a good test is biting into one grain. if its soft and pliable it might be ok. how did they feel before loading up the jar?

I can test one when I open it for the g2g. These were no prep, so just put dry grains into the jars, water and gyp. Then pc. Have not opened since.

Just did the g2g from a fully colonized popcorn jar…

Grains can be bit through, but firm on the inside, not wet at all. If anything they are dry.

Some grains I can even break by pushing against the counter.

Looks fine.  Good job with the prep.  Popcorn/deer corn/thefuckever corn gets abused absurdly on here.  I'd run it in a heartbeat if it cost less than what are becoming ridiculously expensive oats up my way (and literally zero access to millet or wheat... and now no barley for months...), but some fucking how it's like 40% more expensive in 50lb lots for feed grade whole corn... :confused: I'll even run this tek if I grab a sack here in the next while. Thanks for sharing.  Now I want to go get corn to play with so I can satisfy my outlandish love for staring at the color yellow on my jar shelves (or anywhere I can get my yellow fix) :morningtoke:

Oh no! Does that ruin the grow? Yeasts are basically 1 celled mushrooms, how will I know? Just put to bulk after colonizing?

I've never seen yeast look like little bits of gypsum. It gets a wet, slimy look, similar to bacteria, no? The OP said he added a dash of gypsum. OP, I would ignore what Kizzle said.

If it was an additive you would have seen it in the earlier pictures. Here's a pic for comparison.


It may still colonize or it could stall.

Damn I'm going blind lol.  That said: I've almost never had yeast stall a jar.  They'll usually send :shrug:  Not ideal,  but they'll probably send...

Here are todays pics:

I was wondering if being a no prep trial left a lot of corn juice around the inside of the jars and those dots are just small bits of myc that have not grown out yet? I have some mushy cracked oat jars that are really dirty looking and the myc is growing up all the glass walls… Probably wishful thinking:cool:

Either way, let’s just let them sit and see what happens… I will keep posting pics every few days…

Some grains will make sticky mess all over the jar if they're not prepared correctly and burst. Corn doesn't seem to do that.
