I'm afraid to ask now what's a PLIN

A pin that grows on a plate. If you want to increase odds of finding one, keep your germ plates around. They fruit easy.

The idea is that a mushroom that will fruit in those conditions is strong and may do well when put to bulk. People clone or send plate pins all the time.

Ok, got it. Clone meaning as stated before by others, taking a piece transfering to a fresh plate, right? And send as in by post?

Plin is a Portmanteau of plate and pin.

Thank you sir.
So transfering a pin would mean taking a piece of the "fruiting body" (I guess) and putting it to agar, right?
Or am I mixing up something here. I read in Mckenna's book about taking a piece of flesh from a fresh cap of a mushroom and transfering it to agar as means of getting only one specific "strain" of dikaryotic mycelium.

Is what you are talking about similar/same?

When you have a pinning agar plate, you can transfer that pin straight to another agar dish or just straight to grain. In a SAB, I just grab the pin with tweezers and toss it in a grain jar for use in a quick clone shoebox.

Ok, thank you,  so the plate pin will not rot in a grain jar?! It spreds myc?
I'm surprised. I would expect you had to be more careful and isolate subcutaneous tissue put that to agar and then transfer clean myc to grain. This is interesting.

Send means to send to grain jars. Don't send anyone tissue of actives unless it's legal in your area and the receivers area.

Yeah mushroom tissue will revert to mycelium and colonize in the presence of sterile food. It’s pretty awesome!

Woow, thanks for the clarification.
Fuck it i'm keeping all the plates around and seeing where all this goes.
I have germ plates 80 days old, still waiting if any will pin. Coulpe of them started growing myc again after I opened them up to take the transfers. Now I'm waiting to see if any pin.

Thank you all. All of this is fucking fascinating.

Some people say you can encourage plate pinning by opening an old plate and letting a little fresh air in. Idk just what I’ve heard

Don't know about pinning, but it seems that air exchange that happens by opening a plate reinvigorated the mycelium and got it to grow further after it was stalling for quite some time.

Anyway.

I’ve noticed most of my plates that pin the parafilm/cling used has separated and FAE has happened.

I seem to get better growth on my holy grail plates if I don't tighten then down all the way. I figure it has to do with FAE.
