Definitly. It's better to debunk than to insult - it just takes more effort.

One thing that I have noticed is that when I clearly paint someone into a corner using their own thoughts and words; the end result is either anger or silence. Gratitude for the quality control check or a paradigm shift is extremely rare - especially from those claiming to want to be free from ego (another illusion) or to be seeking "the truth" (another illusion). It is tireless and thankless work and I don't even get a paid vacation. I do it mostly for the free donuts.

Do you ever think that sometimes by "backing people into a corner" you have somehow brought the truth to such face that the reader cannot respond... because of the inability to gain an objective view point?

Well... thats how its been for me sometimes anyway  .

It's basically the difference between the love of knowledge and the love of stupidity.

A person who loves knowledge delights in every new fact, and every correction of an imperfect fact. Thier knowledge is always in flux, always growing.

A lover of stupidity, on the other hand, craves the feeling that they already know all they need to know, that they hold a "correct" world-view. Any truly new knowledge is a challenge; this is why they prefer wishy-washy new age eagle spirit energy orb bullshit fantasy to actual science. I'm surprised that these people don't have terrible trips.

This is fine... as long as you don't think that knowledge is equivalent with just any old piece of information. A vacuum cleaner sucks up alot of material, but rarely do we pick stuff out of the collection bag before we toss it out.

Oh, THAT'S where you're going with this. A pathetic ad hominem.

I think alot of people here are under the false impression that they actually comprehend what the term "skeptic" means.

A true skeptic is simply one who does not form an opnion/belief without what they feel is sufficiant evidence to reasonably do so.

I believe alien life exists...but i have very little proof, I only have what i personally feel is good enough evidence to suggest that it is so likely that some form of alien life does exist that i am willing to subscribe to the belief that it does. But if someone showed me evidence that felt was more compelling then my own and was infavor of the alternative conlcusion then i would abandon my prior belief. i find it highly unlikely that people are routinely kidnapped and anally probed by aliens. But i admit the possibility exists that it does happen...here my belief is only that its unlikely. Many people here would define a skeptic as someone who would say "No aliens do not abduct people and shove things in their butts, period end of story" That is not a skeptic, that is a believer. They believe aliens dont do that, or dont even exist.

The true skeptic is essentially agnostic, they simply have formed no belief one way or the other, at most they might be leaning infavor of a particular belief but are infact still on the fence. If you think im arguing semantics then your right.. semantics and context are everything, together they form the meaning. Untill you can atleast agree on the meaning, you cant get anywhere at all, except into an arguement.

Everyone has positive and negative sides, it just depends what angle you percieve from. You can only truly judge when youve seen from every angle which i doubht you could do from typing to one another on the net.

Let me be blunt, there are only few who reach perfection. Just cause people kiss your ass dont make em open minded and just cause they dont kiss your ass doesnt make em close minded. And if you cant accept that, you do much suffering and cant see the world in its current state. If you expect people to ride your dick than you are living in a illusory world and value yourself highly.

so basically someone afraid of being wrong?

those who are offended, i apologize and i probaly am a dick head for saying this

all the above stated is my oppinion i do not condemn nor condone listening or agreeing to my oppinion.

Soon a new Buddha will arise, conceived from pure consiousness ... you will refer to him as Maitreya

You can call me Maitreya, but use Swami for convenience.

Did it ever occur to you that these same ideals apply to yourself, and that you are also at the mercy of your own subjective perceptions, just like all the people you're talking down upon? Every one of us suffers these crutches, and it is foolish to think you're in a place so much more advanced than ALL the rest of us, that you should be able to speak as if you're above the limitations that all human minds suffer.

Don't get me wrong, I DO find your posts humorous these days.
I rarely take you seriously, I learned that lesson quite a while ago.

Edit: Take into consideration someone's comment above about the similarity to someone who's always trying to sell their book in their posts...

To elaborate on that point, think of how customers act in a store when they know the sales representatives are paid by commission. You can't trust these people, because they have a hidden agenda. They are more concerned with making money than getting you the right product for your needs, and therefore nothing they say can be taken at face value. Instead, you must take in the information, try to determine if you're being deceived, then act accordingly.

In this metaphorical example, the salesman represents you. Even though you are not out for personal gain, this point is not known to every one you encounter. People do not enjoy being manipulated, even if you think it is for their own good. Once they've determined that you have a "hidden agenda", odds are they will not trust you. From distrust grows contempt and from contempt grows anger.

I think THAT's why people get mad at you. But that's just my opinion.

Ahmen Jacques!
But yeah Swami I have found you to be irritating when you decide to throw my beliefs out the door. You are a child of light though, so I do love you. Even if you do piss me off.

swami,

i think youre pretty funny (but not pretty pretty).  in learning to deal with people on the shroomeryBB, i have just learned to limit my responses to your posts to one!  i can state my idea/thought, then see your idea thought responded back.  im not really here to argue.  i like to learn, but its pretty much a selective learning, ill take in what i want.  either way your posts have a sense of humor i find refreshing

translation:  you suck ass swami, and i feel hate in my emotion organ when i read your letters  :mad2:

swami, I don't think I really ever got mad at you, just kind of disappointed, or I'd shake my head in wondering what you are thinking sometimes.  getting offended or angry at someone on the net is rather retarded.

your "lesson"  is a very important one, but your approach has me questioning your intent sometimes.  I will have to say using a person's ego against them is the most direct way of showing a person how they react according to their morals.  At the same time, cornering someone and puposely trying to prick at people's ego sometimes doesn't allow the person to see the message as clearly cause their ego takes control right away.

can't you ever show others how they might be misguiding themselves, or show people another point of view without manipulation? you weren't born with this knowledge, you aquired it, as everyone here does.  we are all in the same boat, and personally I don't think you are any more a master than the next joe.

I know you won't get as many replies as your would being a compassionate person, but to those who do read your message, WILL get your intent more often than if you prick at their egos purposely. I know poeple don't respond to my posts as often as yours, but I know for sure that people who do read what I try to write see what I'm really trying to get across. When a person really sees the intent for what it is, in every post you make, the message will beam clearer in that persona's mind.

that fact that you make claims on what is and isn't illusion, shows your disillusionment .  the fact that you think you can help with regards to ideas for other people is an illusion.

Even though it says I haven't even been at this board for a year, I lurked for a couple of years, and I see when you back out of a discussion in silence when you get own3d.

all of the work we do isn't thankless at all, jsut because you don't see the appreciation, it is there swami, it is there.

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

I get upset at you because your only feat of knowledge is rebuking the knowledge of others.

And, your claims of disillusionment for others are only ego-games of your own... a very nice hypocrisy.

Although I find Swami's posts too agitating at times (sure, maybe I am attached to my beliefs, I'm human after all)

I do think he'd make a better president than George W. Bush.

Whos with me?
