No worries, I just don't have any fruits to show for it, so I rather refer to someone who has.
In case things go south.. don't toss you contaminated spawn/bag.. just remove mold by hand.. add some old garden soil with aged chips mixed in, expose to the open. These came from 2 contaminated trich jars.. was 25% green.. after a week or 2 spending time in the garden in an open bag.. I placed everything inside.. even added some leftover clean spawn.. now 2 weeks passed.. just checked.. looks fine

Interesting, it did have bark on it! I'll try removing it next time and see if that's any better. I'm not certain that it's trich, it seemed more grey-green than emerald to me. Those moldy pieces were tossed in the garden so it's in god's hands now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hi Folks
I’m wondering if any of you have introduced wood / lignin into the cultivation of wood lovers earlier and if you thought there was any advantage to it (speed, vigor, leap off).

I have added some Adler wood pellets (.5 -1%) to my agar for woodlover germination or transfers, I’ve added about 1-3% wood pellets in my grain jars for woodlover mycelium.

The thing is I was too lazy to do a proper side by side comparison of wood supplemented vs not wood supplemented.

I can definitely say it doesn’t hurt. All those efforts were as good and possibly better than non supplemented.

Y'know I almost made my agar broth for woodlovers with leftover chaga bits from processing plus some willow chips... 

Tax:

Put some wbr mycoquarts of Azzies to 5lb bags of birch/spruce/willow/coir for this year's attempt at getting fruits tonight.  Subs, cyans, and allenii all coming along as well atm.

I do add sawdust to some of my spawn jars. It speeds up the colonization a lot due to more inoculation points when shaking. Even Pans love it.

Bit of an update woodlover-wise.. 4 bags with cyanescens going.. all clean. Just added subaeruginosa from Tweeq to a bag.. and also the stuff from Onno, azurescens 'Elixier' added to 2 bags of chips.. all fermented chips that have been pasteurized... even the bag with some chips from the garden have colonized with the fruit bodies I tossed in there after cloning.. worked with cyanescens, subs didn't work out.. bag bloated, guess bacteria took over.

Look at that.. I'll let them colonize 100% and then bury them as 'blocks' in the garden :grin:

Reminds me of the good ole days.. 2016, growing Cyans without sterile techniques. Had no PC, no SAB, nothing, just winging it :rofl: It was my first mycelium I've ever grown, and never seen the fruits of.

Haha, well this has been far from sterile.. contaminated spawn.. fish out ok-ish looking bits.. spawn to uhmm decayed chips from the garden with soil.. did produce a cake, but decided to burry it as some green started to appear. Outside it will do fine!! :grin: look at this dirty cake..

Yeah man.

Thar one was the first jar I made from a T1 plate or so. I thought the growth looked cool.

There are a few plates at the T3-T4 stage now that look a bit cleaner.



Still no SAB, and using a $25 Cuisinart 4qt electric PC. The mycelium doesn't seem to care much when it hits wood.



Growing these indoors so not expecting to see much, but hey, FAFO, right?

Lately I've been trying out bathtub tek. Super sterile especially right next to the toilet. I'm wondering what this weird stuff is, probably trich?

You're doing all that without a SAB?? That's hardcore, I struggle with a fair bit of bacterial contamination even with the SAB and careful sterile technique (obviously not careful enough tho).

I put 3 gallons of ovoid colonized chips into the garden today, probably at around a 1:15 ratio. I'm planning on casing it with some garden soil once the myc seems to be recovering.



Cyan tubs are still expanding, hoping to start a patch in a few weeks!

Yeah, it's pretty dumb, for some reason making one has just been a weird mental hangup. I do a lot of my transfers on a kitchen counter because I don't have a great place to work otherwise. I need to just suck it up and find a spot I can put a tote to work in.

It's definitely tough to avoid any bacterial contamination, but I've been having some success with newer jars by ensuring the agar I transfer is as clean as possible and PCing the grain extra long (mine definitely can't hit 15 PSI, but after ~3 hours it seems to do the trick).

That bed is looking nice! I like the little rock border - wood lovers seem to enjoy popping up at boundaries like those.

Thanks! I was trying to make it blend in and separate it from old woodchips in the path to the left which I'm sure have quite the fungal bank waiting to take over these fresh ones.

Heads up, you changed the thread title and all I know is that's frowned upon.

Definitely put a SAB on your to-do list, it'll probably save you a lot of plates (and time)!

Yo woodlovers!

Go some azzies that went nuts on some agar, so. I put them to oats (ended up mushy) but they didn’t care a bit and ate it all, finally put them to some boiled alder chips. The cake was dense and took some coaxing to get out of the jar, then mixed in a bucket with the chips and covered with a cloth indoor. Saw a little myc left in the jar, so wtf - threw a few chips in the jar…

The myc is nuts, 3 days and I can’t even pic a piece of chip off the top, it just grabs it all! Even the jar is colonizing nicely, this is after a shake…

Until you use sterile technique like a SAB you are just farming bacteria and worse.  Spend the $6.99 on the item that is an uncompromisable piece of equipment.
