No, I want them to be in a nice place without such toxic plants ^^

Edit: But is that true? :undecided: Than I might have some good spots for them ^^

Landscrape construction contractor here, use the blackberries.  WL fucking LOVE BB canes.

I can still waltz through a 9 ft tall 3 acre wide invasive Himalayan blackberry patch like it's not even there. Like hidden dragon crouching tiger ninja shit. Same with nettles, haha.

Back in the day I used to hide my plants deep in the bramble, where no one could ever go or see.

You're the friend I would shove into the brambles halfway through your dance

I also used to put big guerrilla plants in the blackberries, right down by the lake where they could reach the water table with their roots.  Worked like a charm, just come back at harvest time.

I wonder if they love devils club too?

I'll have to toss em a small stick and see what happens. I don't see myself harvesting it for that purpose or anything, other than for an experiment.  I just really wanna see if they will munch on the slightly psychoactive roots too, not just the pungent smelling woody wines.

All the out of control BB patches that are taking over however.. Now I got a reason to quit procrastinating, and get out there and start whacking em down. Thanks guys! Now is probably the best time of year anyway huh..

The BBs swallowed one of my boats like 2 years ago. I forgot it was even there until I remember I had another boat a few months ago.. And a few big piles of materials here and there. And a few cars, lol.

I'm seriously contemplating getting some goats..

Goats are great, best channel broadcasting in the back 40.  Even better than the chicken or fire channel.  Could watch em be silly all day.

They eat poison oak too!

Have fun with the devil's club, I give it as much space as possible.

I also topped off an ovoid shoebox with some fermented Doug fir chunks:

Does fermenting it help leach out/nullify some of the effects from resin that usually put woodlovers off? Or is this a case where ovoids are less sensitive than the "native" PNW woodlovers? (Or is this overthinking and they will colonize most of this stuff fine...)

Either way looks incredible, I would say the genetics are healthy, haha!

Doing some final (I hope) transfers of a couple cyanescens plates. I'm trying not to over-select because most of the leading edge growth looks pretty healthy, but curious if many folks have seen significant changes in results by isolating woodlover genetics more aggressively before transferring to grain. My gut instinct is to take a few healthy sections and let nature figure out the rest... the FAFO method again I guess.

Was gonna make a whole thread then decided it just be in this one.

Last year I planted some allenii and cyanescens spores and spawn in eucalyptus trees, no irrigation, no chips, in the SF bay area.

And they are loving it, better than many of the wood chip beds I have tried to plant in.

I just wanted to let anyone know. I havn't found any permanent psilocybe patches in the bay yet. It is a good option to try if you already planted some in towns.

I honestly have no idea, I think I saw someone mention that it helps to leach resins but that might be hearsay. I'll probably do a similar shoebox with some unfermented Doug fir chips when I get a chance for the sake of experimenting, but it's definitely not a controlled study. I kinda just figured storing chips in a bucket of water would keep them from getting colonized by other fungi but I don't even know that to be true.

FWIW I didn't do much selection from my germ plates, just enough to get clean cultures. I have no prior experience but I agree with your gut to just let nature take its course.

Another interesting note from my cyanescens shoeboxes that I started a week or two ago: alder shavings/chopped hazelnut branches pasteurized (tried to keep it <170f) for several hours have colonized quickly but also show minor green contamination, unlike any of my other shoeboxes. Not sure why trich would have had such an advantage here, but these will be going to outdoor beds anyways so I'm not too concerned.

If your hazelnut branches still had bark on them, I'd suspect that might have been the source of the green contam. (Is it for sure trich? I see that show up as a pretty distinct white and then light green to emerald green, whereas a lot of other molds will stay dull green. I tend to be less concerned about those.) I imagine bark can probably protect some of those spores even from pasteurization temps.

Thanks for sharing this again. I've tried a few times to dive somewhere into the middle of this thread and see if I can catch up, but have missed this so far.

Thanks @0t0lerance for sharing that again! I knew I could do it with wood, but didn't think about straw >.< Got to try that with the next batch of chips I am going to ferment

I tried that.. smelled like horrible vomit.. absolutely disgusting. Fermenting wood smells a bit like yeast/cork..  and bearable.. but the straw was absolutely revolting.. will never do that again.

Oh okay, thanks for the tip!!! than I just keep going with pasteurizing it ^^ Thought of mixing some straw and peat (both pasteurized) to the fermented woodchips and bagg it. Should I than pasteurize the bags again or can I just go ahead and inoculate them with grainspawn?

Edit: Pic Tax:

Some of my T1 I transfered to grain today for my LAGM Grow:

Why are you adding stuff to the woodchips? I noticed too much soil between chips made a few spots go anaerobic after digging around.. (I used a way too generous layer on top.. which compacted between the chips after a 0.5 year of rainfall.. suffocating the mycelium). Just on a few spots though, nothing major.. mycelium on other parts was alive burried under 10cm of soil (yes very dumb to just dump soil on top.. not checking thickness..)

If I could do it again, I would just add a small layer on top.. and not mix anything in-between so to say..

Okay, thank you!

I am planning on making guerilla outdoor beds, so I though It might be a good Idea to add some extra. But in that case I will see that I can make a small toplayer with that stuff and let the grainspawn just colonize the woodchips?

I don't feel qualified to answer that.. instead I would say have a look at Tweeq's journal: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27072912
