Cool. They will manage.

But you're right. Colonization happens faster when the chips are dried longer even to the point where the outsides start to look dry ish again (in the case of big chips at least).
I can only speak from my own experience and I use big chips from a logging company.

Yeah, I knew they were too moist, but it's a small quantity.. and had to get them in the PC, was already getting late that evening. I thought I'll do it right with fermented chips.. got more of these small chips bubbling away.. and still got 2x 10kg bags of slightly bigger chunks to ferment .

Adding some grass seed to rye with woodlovers was not working.. just became a big ball (left bag) does not break up

I received a simple envelope with a handful of colonised Ps cyanescens woodchips, expanded the chips, made some beds, and 20 years later I can still harvest from said patches, mainly due to the fact the gardeners that maintain the area keep adding new woodchips to new places in the area (I did nothing to expand, just spread some of the stembuts and some mycelium in new piles of wood.) I don't know weather the spores from the original beds keep spreading, if it's the mycelium that keeps expanding, or it's purely the great habitat, but I love the fact that I did a little work 20 years ago and still can harvest every autumn around said spots and have the feeling I attributed to that. Plus it's public domain, so anyone who can recognize them, can take a bunch.
