Concert Goers: Music vs. 'Scene'

Alright so there a lot of great bands out there with a considerable tour following. But how many of these atendees are actually there for the music performace, and not just the 'scene'? How many fans in the [late] Phish parking lot were actually there to enjoy music and how many there to score some fire molly? Or with the Grateful Dead (and The Dead), how many were there because the Grateful Dead are supub musicians an how many because it was required atendece of all 'true hippies'? With The Dead probably even more are there just to score some cid. anyway im just curious anyone got any ideas?

I like music on my own time and by myself. I rarely like going to concerts and in fact the whole "scene" thing turns me off. I don't like crowds and I don't really even like most people. Which works in my favor because concert tickets are fucking expensive as all hell these days.

i go for the music...i mean, i love the lots and "scene" or whatever because it's really fun to kick it in the lots, but if i had to pick between just the lots or just the show and being sober...i'd do the sober show, i'm there for the music.  i :heart: music.

what got me attracted to 'the dead' was the fact that my friends are hippy so the scene is what pulled me in. i only know of the concert because of my boyfriend's open ears. he goes to shitloads of concerts from the styx to kiss.

i don't hate the scene eve if its lame just to go cause of that. i'm there to check out the band more myself. alreayd got tickets n stuff. but seriously, is it a sin to go to a concert to meet others with the same interests as yourself? i don't think so.

that's a good way to put it...i go for the show...the scene is the extra thing that adds some more fun too it. i love chillin in the lots, and walking around, you can meet lots of very interesting people.

I don't think as many Dead heads are just there for the acid as ya think. I would put those people into a very small percentage of the people there.

i've never been to a dead show, but regarding phish shows i heard so many people say "i can't wait to get to the lots, you can get so many drugs and pipes and blah blha blah"

W/o a doubt the lot is great fun. But the show is what it's all about.

I think the scene and the show are intertwined. The scene is good, its fun, people will always want to be a part of something where people share interests...

If someone goes to a show for the scene, then thats his thing and thats cool, but if he says he loves the music but really doesnt... well thats another thing.

Not really.  lol.  You know, I was just thinking about how cool it would be to live in the vicinity of where show happen alot... we dont really get show like bonaroo and stuff in norway.

There is the roskilde, in denmark, santana and some other good stuff will be playing there.  If I work some moeny up for it I'll be going, if not I'll still be going (if my firneds will be driving there) and do what I did last year, jump over the fence... risky but free :wink:

I lived on bottles and friends that whole festival.  Lol, good memories.  Try running past 4 guards to get into the concert area while your tripping hard on mushrooms, lol, fun shit.

haha, yeah it is nice to be able to be close to a lot of concerts and stuff.

At Summerfest (a huge festival in the summer for like 11 days in milwaukee, lots of music, lots of beer, food, etc...lots of everything) The Big Wu will be playing the night before phsih...if i can get 12 spare dollars to get into summerfest (all the shows are free except the ones in the Marcus Amphitheater) i will go. And then the it's either first night of Phish or the 2nd night Moe. will be playing.

2 shows iw anted to see i won't...MAYBE the big wu, no moe though. (that rhymed)

but if you do go to sell...don't sell bunk shit...sell straight up...a lot of my friends have gotten bunk shit throughout the years at shows and festivals...and that just ain't cool to be shady...met dudes that make a clean sweep of the campgrounds...sell their bunk and get out and you'll never see them again...now this isn't to give you ideas...
