You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. ~ Adrian Rogers

Ok so...
Who ensures that the school is run to a satisfactory standard?
Who pays for the training of teachers?
How is a standard examination procedure administered nation wide?(This is obviously important to employers..thousands of unrelated qualifications from different schools wound render them meaningless)

Again, the parents ensure that the school is run to a satisfactory standard. Parents will not long keep their children enrolled in a school that is not running adequately. A school operating in the private sector has INCENTIVE to meet the needs of its customers.

What teacher training are you referring to? Are you referring to the credit system for teachers in the United States where they can go out, take classes and receive a payraise once they acquire X credits? The teachers themselves pay for that. If you are referring to workshops and such that schools might send teachers to, I see no reason why school money would not be allocated towards that if it is the wish of the parents.

As far as some way to judge students on a national level...I am sure you are familiar with the Collegeboard/ETS services of the SAT, SATII's, and AP classes? This a privately owned group that allows students to measure themselves against their peers through tests/classes administered for every person in the country. Their are a multitude of other organizations that provide similar functions.

So you really think "parents" are going to be qualified enough to regulate childrens education? Im not so sure but lets say they are.

Im from the UK so no im not talking about that! I see how that could work though.

What happens if enough people dont donate enough money to provide education for the poorer members of society?

Parents cannot possibly be any more inept at regulating a curriculum than government. Schools wouldn't be operating in isolation of course. There would be a variety of experts in various fields suggesting what is of value to students.

As I said it would be a long process to get schools from where they are now to a completely privatized system. As Libertarians gained power, many reforms would occur before the total deregulation of education. This makes my answer to your charity skepticism hard to give. I can't see how there would be a shortage of money. If the group(s) that managed the charity got on TV and announced the kind of funds they needed, I am supremely confident they would be met.

half the world lives on less than 2 dollars a day--they could use some charity money, but we're so distanced from everything, people just don't give to charity much outside of people they come into direct contact with.

People are significantly more receptive to working inside their own country as far as charity goes.

Why does the man that sucks the shit out of port-a-potties need a Ph.D.? Not everyone can be a neurosurgeon.
