I had grey molds overtake my two fully colonized straw logs that would not fruit. I feel your pain brother. By overtake, I mean start to grow on a nickel size piece of straw.

my question is if the mold grew when fruit was cut, but NOT when it was twist/pulled, how is that evidence the mold was there, unseen, the entire process...agar, grain, shake grain, spawn run, time till 1st flush harvest.  plenty of time for an existing mold culture to sporulate i would think, if it was already present in the agar.

I suppose it's also strange to see no mushroom throughout the process. Plenty of time for them to grow on agar on in a spawn jar. I don't exactly when the mold first contaminated it but it obviously started before the mushroom were harvested. Or I should really molds, there are at least 2 mold species there.

The mold was present on my agar, it "piggybacked" along for the ride, looking like a fuzzy patch of cube my to my eyes at the time...mind you, I made this thread over a year ago.

Once I discovered what this looked like on agar, I did a "house cleaning" and cleaned up all my slants...ended up throwing quite a few away. That was the basis for my agar media journal.

So the issue was hanging out all along. Proof positive that molds don't necessarily have a distinct smell and also that they can sometimes wait to sporulate until they hit the bulk substrate.

Since then, all my tubs make it through at least two flushes, it's great.

Toward the middle of the left section of the plate? From like 1-5... Where its all fuzzy?  I recently went through the same thing.  For the last 6 months.

It just weird to me that it won't sporulate on agar.

I literally went back to master so many times trying to pin point my issue.  6 months of cleaning one clone.  :facepalm:

even making it through 4 transfers on agar because of my transferring too big of a wedge... Now I have a perfect 2-dimension master slant. 

Anyway, if you had any more insight on the situation now that its been a year, would like to hear it.  Saw another post where a guy was having the same issue.  But it turned out his grains were not getting fully sterilized.  he found bacteria after putting a control grain jar on agar...
and that was causing the green to show up in his bulk because the mycelium was fighting the bacteria...something like that anyway. 

I'm pretty sure my issue is from using fuzzy transfers.  Is that what you came to the final conclusion of?

I know this is extremely old thread but its the best explenation of what ive had going on. I to have a piggy back mold(white to light grey) that seems to grow on or slightly elevated from the mycelium. I even moved my lab because i coulkd not get it contained and lost over 25 cube strains from my inventory due to this contamination. i just moved propertys even but have the same flow hood filter (witch is only 3 weeks old). I was gifted 12 new cultures from the same guy i got my last ones from and just tonight have found over half of my masters along with fresh transfers have the same contam again. do you think this mold something that could lay somewhat dormant in my culture vendors enviormental conditions but then reproduce and become visually present once in mine? (my lab is in a tent and gets relatively warmer than his place) I have gone through hell trying to figure out where it comes from and admittedly hes my friend but i was questioning some of the cultures when they arrived just 4 or 5 days ago. he says he doesnt have issues but idk... its either my hoods filter or his cultures from what i can gather at this point. because im so sketched out i put 4 strains on 2 back up plates then used the rest in quart jars. the ones on grain look suspect for sure and my new plates are hard to tell yet. SOrry for such a long story but do you have any advice possibly? i guess try a different vendor is a start?
