can mold grow on mycelium
    #1146047 - 12/16/02 03:02 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

i have a case that has just started to pin, there is some blue/green discoleration on the top of the mycelium that is on the casing layer, it is not on the 50/50 or anything, just the myclium and it is only on the very tip of the mycelium., can this be mold?
i was thinking it couild be bruising but i never touched it, but i have taken it out of the terrarium to fan many times per day, an d check on them..

You thought you brought your best lines but they couldn't touch mine
I rocked you in your knot hope you have better luck next time

It could very well be mold. if its ONLY on the top you can try using a sterilized exacto knife and try removing the mold. If it comes back, it already has a good foothold over the mycelium, and youd be better off tossing the cake :frown:

This happened to my first casing, but the blueness appeared on the myc just after my first flush, so I figured that it was because of the cake being "thirsty", and nothing to worry about.  Not long after I had an infestation of bloody flies   My shrooms started growing really funny too, the stems were kind of all dimpled and shriveled.

Freak out baby, the bee is coming.
