Flushing pretty good now conditions are perfect and looking like they’re here to stay. Went out for a little ride and managed to get 245 in about 3 hours.. How’s everyone else getting on in the SW? here’s some pics to enjoy. 🍄

Happy hunting!

Height was about 300 metres.
Pasture/grassland habitat.
Somewhere in the High Peak that I knew from past experience.

There really is no substitute for getting out as much as possible and basically dropping lucky. In many ways, it’s like going fishing. I’d say when out hunting for new spots, I bust or find disappointingly few 2/3 of the time. Doesn’t mean I’m in the wrong place, maybe just the wrong time. And maybe someone beat you to it!  After many years, I am STILL searching for somewhere remote, highly productive and reliable within an hour from where I live. Those places exist, it’s just a case of covering enough ground to find them.

Luckily, Liberty caps are fairly common and the weather conditions have been more or less perfect this week. Get out there with dry boots, a persistent spirit and good intentions and you will be rewarded!

Just got back from walking for a few hours in North East England. I thought I had quite a few but after looking at some other pics a few of mine are questionable.

Happened to me too mate but works when I click on it. Unfortunately though I think they're mainly dung caps

Hey all!
Have a bit of a troubling problem.
I've been fan drying on some paper with some silica packets after picking. Came back to the dried mushrooms with lots of tiny white worm/maggot looking creatures having a feast.  I imagine some creature laid eggs in the mushroom pre-picking and they hatched during the drying process.
Anyone had any experience with this/know of any solutions?

You could try putting them in the freezer. Won’t damage the mushrooms if they’re dry and should kill the bugs.

I'm afraid you will have to throw those away my friend. Do not eat those. They've been claimed already.

I'm so jealous of everyone already. There's been sok much rain down here and it had completely went over my head that the conditions seem so perfect doing so much work and all... This may actually be my first ever successful season after waiting so long. Happy hunting guys. I can feel all the energy in the air already with Halloween on the horizon. Onto lengthy psychedelic nights we go!

sounds to me like they're probably just maggots that are fleeing the caps as they dry

this is usually a sign that the caps are getting too old/wet and starting to rot. one of the double edged swords of all this wet weather.

all is not ruined. you'll just need to wait until the maggots crawl out and dry up, which they do. that said, said dried caps will be blackened and not so pretty but still edible(ish).. it's a personal call at that point 😜. not so horrible if you're grinding them up & putting into chocolate or honey

you would be surprised how many maggots we ingest, particularly eating fresh

the best way around this wiggly nature issue is to only forage the stems on the old/rotting caps and leave the maggots to it in their temporary house/pop-up restaurant 😜

Not been here for a while but nice to see it's still going.
Was out in the North East Yorkshire moors

So easy to spot . Filled me a bag for the winter months.  Should check if the outdoor cyans wavy cap bed is still going.

Late start to the season, eh?

I consulted the magic mushroom map and it was saying that there was a high likelihood of finding libs at my usual spot. I ended up with about 100 after maybe a couple of hours of picking. Not bad, but I don't think they're quite flushing to their full potential yet. More wet weather and cool temps and there should be more coming through.

Location is North Wales, altitude about 800 or so meters above sea level. Grassland, sheep and horses graze on the fields.

Here's a patch..Looking very healthy and fresh.

Took a ride from wiltshire to south wales.. magicmushroom map said there will be mushies. Found couple lookalikes but no libs to be found after 4 hours walking inclines of 200 - 400m. Wish I knew a decent spot

Had a nice drive to Wales today after finally passing my test last month, found about 50 and had a lovely couple of hours up the brecon beacons, in Abergavenny.
Nice day out, and nice to see what appears to be the start of the season, they were definitely favouring the north facing slopes as would be expected at the start of the season.
Really struggle to discern between stropharia semiglobata and libs sometimes.
Just plucked 15 of the biggest caps to spore print, for potential future outdoor grow attempts.

Hi everyone,

Went to dartmoor a week ago and found a gew as it´s higher elevation. Tried near me and didn´t have any luck, walked aorund for about 3 hours. IS it possible to find libs at lower altitudes, i.e. by rivers and valleys or would those only sprout once it gets much cooler? Still around 15-17 during the day here. There wer esheep and cows grazing. Think it could be a good spot when its cooler?

Yes of course it’s possible, when the conditions are right. They just start fruiting at higher altitude first because it tends to be cooler first. And for the same reason, the season ends later at lower elevations in the south.

Here is a single one I spotted at sea level yesterday, in NW England. :mushroom2: Expecting more of this any time now. 🤞🤞🤞
