I can actually finish a joint without gettin too blasted...I miss that.

I have old family friends that still has the genetics from the old "mids" weed that you could just smoke joints all day on but that's not near strong enough for me now days. I used to have a bunch of seeds from that bud too

honestly, I think the average "A grade" buds are worse now than they were around 2005-2009. There was a time- when weed still costed 60 bucks an eighth- when buds were so sticky and smelly you had to triple wrap them and wash your hands after just merely touching some. The high was unmistakably more euphoric.

The concentrates are a different ballgame, but they have a lot more recreational/abuse potential and less medicinal potential IMO

The genetics were more pure and varied aslo people weren't using growth inhibitors to create dense buds.  I also think the strict controls on mold at the dispos drive growers to overdry their bud which causes a good portion of the voilatile terpenes to be lost. Nobody jar cures their bud like they used to, it is just bag, tag it and sell it to the budtender at the store.

I used to go out of my way to find low rent dealers with brick weed outta mexico because I love schwag. Don't get me wrong I can hang with the strong bud out there now. Its got its place, and I enjoy the fuck out of it too.
But theres just something special about that weed thats gone to seed. Reggie is just so perfect.

Some of the highest times I've ever had were literally puffin a handful of reggie roaches. I've come to learn that cannabis is half perspective and letting go.

Willie Nelson said fans throw a zillion joint onto the stage for him and and he smokes every one of them. He must not tour that much any more. He 's real old.

I started out in the 70's with $15 an ounce Mexican and sometimes I got as high as I ever been in my life. Then there was $35 Columbian. Both of those were filled with seeds. The first time I smoked green skunk sinsimilla in the 80's it was mind blowing on one or two hits, but a couple day later we were smoking it all night. I'm retired form smoking because of heavy cigarette smoking and bronchitus. Eveyone's trying to get me to do a dab. I'm like dude if did a dab I would cough for two weeks.

Yes I would not be inhaling anything with bronchitis sorry to hear that.

However, if I were Willie I would not just be smoking "every single joint" that people threw up there because what if it's some of that DMT weed that I heard about?

There's this sort of a legend around landrace (I don't know how much it should be believed) that it's less genetically diluted because it hasn't been much crossbreed. That doesn't make sense to me, becasue if it was good why not crossbreed. It's totally easy. I used to put pollen on female flowers with a little artist's paint brush, and put a baggie over it so I would get seed from the cross and the rest of the plant would still be seedless. It usually took several tries to get a desirable cross.

I always heard curing in jars produces the best final product, but I never did it. 25 years ago I was growing 20-30 pounds a year outdoors, all from the same clone, so jars were not practical. I've never smoked dispensary weed, but I don't why they would over dry to avoid mold. I never got mold drying it in the garage. I got mold when there was too much rain late in the flowering season, and that was depressing because the biggest buds would get it. I don't remember exactly, but you're looking for 10-13% water content, then you could bag it. But if the moisture was a little high small bags would be OK and big ones could mold in the bag. I would think dispensaries have very controlled conditions to avoid this.

Yeah, if I was him I would be a little selective.

Here's a funny (maybe funny) dirty Wille Nelson joke. What's the last thing you want to hear if you're blowing Willie Nelson....."I'm not Willie Nelson".

A landrace would be a strain stablized through many generations of inbreeding. These original strains when cross bread produced F1 hybrids displaying hybrid vigor, showing the most dominant traits of the parents. Some of the best strains were created thusly, skunk #1 for example.
The problem we have now is everything is now a cross of a cross.  While two stable landraces produce hybrids with vigor and consistency these crosses that often start with a clone only example of a strain produce a widely variable set of offspring. There are no attempts to stabilize through selective back crossing.

There are a few shops still selling the OG strains and their crosses. Peak seeds BC for example has been selling the same NL, skunk and blueberry since the 2000s. https://www.peakseedsbc.com

Well "A grade" isn't top of the line bud anymore.... it's what dealers use to describe decent weed.

I see the shit you're talking about every day online. Weed has definitely gotten more potent with better genetics.

I concur.

Even before I read your post I was going to mention the same exact thing.

Back around 2005 to 2010 is when super high quality flowers were everywhere in my area (northern California). Pretty much every single person that had a sack of weed on hand and every single dealer selling the herb, it was all extremely high quality flower and I rarely ever come across flower these days that is on par with the stuff I was getting back then...and back then it was everywhere, that's all there was on the market, high quality flower was everywhere. Anyone that didn't grow or have high quality buds wouldn't be able to compete in the market.

And all of it was extremely loud and pungent smelling. A mere 1 gram bud wrapped up in multiple plastic bags, placed inside a medicine bottle, inside the drawer of my dresser, would still have my entire room/house smelling like dank/skunk for several days. Just merely touching the buds would have ones hands reeking like skunk. It was ridiculous how loud and pungent smelling the herb was back then.

The herb back then was also sticky and gooey and oily and resinous...breaking up some buds would have ones fingers sticky like glue. Merely touching the bud would leave a coat of resin on the fingers. I rarely ever come across buds these days that are resinous & sticky like that, in fact the only herb I've had over the past 5+ years that's been sticky/resinous is the stuff that I grow myself.

Also the flavor....I remember all of the herb back then having very pronounced rich flavor and different strains had a unique essence/flavor. Flavor that would taste delicious all the way to the end of a joint, a joint would leave my entire mouth coated in juicy/rich flavors.

With that said...the price of weed was also a lot higher back then, 8ths were going for $45 to $60, but it was also incredibly high quality stuff. In weed stores these days some 8ths go for $50 to $90, but the quality just isn't there or as consistent as the herb on the "street" back in the mid to late 2000s.

Back then, anyone I went through to get weed would have very high quality flowers...these days, all the usual friends/dealers I go through have what I'd consider to be very mediocre stuff, some that is "OK" and some that is on the verge of what I'd consider to be total garbage. And in the stores, most of the stuff is a joke/rip off.

In my area (northern California), these days if one wants quality flowers they will have to grow it themselves...I don't know where to find high quality flowers at all anymore. The black/street market is mostly "mids"/mediocre crap, and most of the stuff in weed stores is "meh" and/or very overpriced.

Potency wise...the weed around today is no more potent than the weed I was smoking 16 years ago. I also feel that THC #s are inflated/exaggerated, and I also feel that there is far more to creating a nice/rich high than just THC.

A lot of people these days just straight up do not know what high quality flowers are actually like....how loud/pungent/stanky weed can be...and how much flavor flowers can have. The joints I was smoking back then tasted like I was dabbing/vaping live resin lol, and they tasted like that all the way to the end of the roach.

So then what term is used to describe "top of the line bud" these days?

How can you know the weed is high quality by just seeing pics of it online? Aesthetics only convey a tiny fraction of the quality. Weed can look super good, totally frosted and caked with trichomes, but that doesn't mean it has the potency or the aroma or the flavor. Most weed these days on the market is like that, it has the looks but it is lacking the aroma/flavor and often times a "rich" high.

And nah, most genetics these days are totally watered down compared to back around the early/mid 2000s. Back then the strains were very distinct and unique, with a lot more aroma and a lot more flavor compared to most of what's available on todays "market".

These days a lot of folks are just crossing hyped crosses with other hyped crosses...almost everything these days is cookies/cakes/gelatos crossed with other cookies/cakes/gelatos. It's all the same shit being watered down with the same shit. (Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy some of todays modern varieties and dessert "strains", some of it can be killer when grown well, but I do not view most of todays common/popular varieties as being "better" than what was around 15+ years ago.

True "real strains" aren't even common these days...people just chuck pollen and pick out the best looking plant then make it available via clone. Many "breeders" these days aren't even breeding or creating new strains at all, they're just making seeds from hyped/popular crosses. And making seeds doesn't = breeding/creating new strains.
