I love to smoke weed myself....
But check this, on a MAOI tangent, I've been sometimes grinding up B Caapi in a pestle and mortar and stickin that in the Jay - wow what a sublime psychedellic buzz.
Sometimes I do this in a chillum and knock back a few beers too, play loud music and rave with select pals. Brilliant.
Yeh its sweet.

Ok so, it's an MAOI, which means I have to watch what kinds of food I intake once I've smoked it, correct?
How long do I have to wait once I've eaten to smoke passion flower safely? And how long after I smoke do I have to wait to eat safely?
Those are questions I'd like to know =D And 1.25 an OZ? Shit son..I'll try it.

Haven't tried passionflower, but I have tried drinking kava kava instead of alcohol, and I recommend that. I'll have to give passionflower a try sometime.

1) The psychoactive effects of Passion Flower on both me and my Lady are quite pronounced.
2) Ammotivational Syndrome is quite real. I can attest to it in my own experience as well as in my 22 years of experience as an addictions counselor -mostly with adolescents.
3) As to the word "myth," it is NOT synonymous with 'false' - quite the contrary.
"Myth is the secret opening through which the inexhaustible energies of the cosmos pour into human manifestation..." (Joseph Campbell, Hero with a Thousand Faces)

Quote sources. You are not a source I am willing to accept makes Ammotivational Syndrome real, especially when you called it Apathetic Syndrome, whereas apathy is but one symptom of ammotivational syndrome.
Sorry, no offense.
And FredDurgan, again, the MAOI action in Passion Flower is next to null in practical use.

Leaves. The flowers apparently have other effects. But, the home grown Florida variety doesn't taste the same and didn't yield the same effects. I don't know about your's of course. The flowers sure are beautiful though.

Well fantastic. It may not work as well as it does for Markos, but at the price you can get dried passion flower at, I'm going to give it a shot. And the bonus of a practically null MAOI amount is fantastic.
Do you have a source for that btw? I trust you, but I don't wanna toke up some passion flower and then die the next day because you misread a website.
Thanks

From: The Magical & Ritual Use of Herbs by Richard Alan Miller Destiny Books, New York, 1983.
I do not want you to die either!! And as a general disclaimer, I do not use and I do not advocate the use of Passion Flower as a regular or daily recreational substance. I have always used this substance 'as needed' for depression, anxiety and insomnia. I do not sit around getting stoned every night like when I was 19 or 20. Remember, aside from unknown cumulative effects, any inhaled smoke is detrimental to pulmonary health.
The above pages were my only guide to the use of this in 1992, but then again, I was crazed by my divorce and a bit reckless. I also could not stand the pharmaceuticals my physician prescribed. It's been 13 years, I have hypertension (medically controlled) and a mitral valve prolapse (which recently became symptomatic, but is now controlled with a beta-blocker med). I'M not dead from it (but, proceed at your own risk).

yup passionflower is an extremely weak maoi, you'd haveta smoke like 2 pounds of it to have any extreme effect.

None taken. It is phenomenologically identical as symptoms go. Names change across time. I have seen worse cannabis-related developmental problems, like when an 18 year old who has been stealing and using cannabis since he is 6 has normal processes and understanding of empathy disrupted. Not exactly sociopathic, but non-comprehending of why, for example, a man becomes frantic when his dog is hit by a car, and explains the event like: 'I suppose the man was upset because the dog was a good Frisby player, and if he died, the man was probably worried about where he was going to find another good Frisby-playing dog.' A sterling example of long-term and possibly permanent personality damage due to early cannabis use.
I started cannabis use New Years Eve 1969 and was pretty much done with it a decade later. It's use stunted my own emotional growth, not so much physiologically, but psychosocially ("...the hashish eater would not lift as much as a finger for the prettiest maiden in Venice."). It enhanced my introvertive nature when learning to extravert would have been more developmentally efficacious. It was escapist, and I wasted a good deal of time being stoned. Fortunately, in returning to grad school, I could not afford the dope or the time being stoned.

I'm thinking of picking some up later so I have something to smoke at night since marijuana is out of the question now.
BTW I know I'm bumping an old thread but the last post was too interesting to pass up!

Interesting. Sometimes I used to make a tea with the following ingredients and drink it before getting stoned: passion flower, skullcap, mugwort, valerian, hops, and chamomile. I would use a lot and make a very strong tea, although the ingredients were very cheap so it didn't really matter. Anyway, it definitely made for a very sedated, spaced high after smoking. Other times I'd just make kava kava tea before getting stoned. Talk about a blissful, peaceful time...

In my experience because i had little motivation weed suited me very well as a drug so i smoked it all the time leaving me unable to do much because i was stoned. When i gave it up i was still just as lazy but i wasn't stoned constantly so it gave me the oppurtunity to do things because i wasn't stoned and couldn't do them.
This to me suggests that it is actually just a way of escaping for people who are already lazy but it is entirely possible to use weed without being lazy. It's the choice of - I could do some work or i could get stoned a lazy person will take the stoned option and once they are stoned they are incable and uncaring but this is only while they are stoned. I believe this would work the same with any drug as it's a short term thing. Make the choice work or tv and you choose TV you leave yourself guilty and capable, increasing the chances of work.

I'm intrigued, but lazy and ignorant. I'm not aware of what a MAOI is (clicked the link on page 1, but was a bad url), and am too fucking lazy to go figure it out. From what I've gathered, it means I gotta watch the consumption of particular food items during its use.
Any other negative MAOI effects I need to be aware of? I can't smoke herb anymore due to jobs 'n' shit, and since the Spice blends aren't available in the US anymore, this seems like a plausable substitute.

I've smoked straight up passion flower before, when I didn't have any weed.
Definitely had effects, and were quite pleasant as well.
Comparable to weed ALMOST, but not nearly as strong or good of course

Giving up weed and certain foods? Fuck that.
I'll stick to Kava if I need any sort of anti-depressant properties.
