It is pretty clear that omicron causes more severe illness in very young children compared to other variants

That Bloomberg article is an example of absolutely horrible science communication. Most people who see that think that hospitalizations in South Africa have plummeted, when they’ve actually been exploding over 100% per week for the past month.

But...

Hospitalizations didn’t continue to grow last week, so that takes the delay between infection and severe illness off the table as a confounding variable. It really does appear that omicron is not very virulent

Plenty of Evidence for Recombination in SARS-CoV-2  Different variants of the virus behind the COVID-19 pandemic are swapping chunks of genetic material, but it’s not yet clear what implications that may have for public health.

im curious... is there any cheapish store bought test you can get to test if you've ever caught covid? ive had both shots plus a booster of moderna, and been serious about the whole masking thing this whole time, but i DID get sick fairly bad early on in early february before covid became really known - other than that i've not gotten sick once. on the other hand, I HAVE been working as a grocery store cashier almost the entire time, so I was basically in the trenches the entire time, so wondering if maybe I got infected anyways before I managed to get sick and maybe got some nasty damage I don't know about.

I do know im suffering from asthma atm, but I don't know if i've always had it and it's only showing up now due to the fact i've only recently started exercising harder now due to physical therapy then taking up a job as a grocery stocker, or due to something else.

Where do you live?

Here in Holland we have lateral flow tests you can buy for like 3 bucks, even in supermarkets. They give you results in 15min.

upper michigan. we got a super-walmart here, and a walgreens, but not a huge variety of convenience stores - a somewhat "ok" selection at best.
