Maybe. Depends if the other strains are wiped out or not. Omicron is likely to hit so fast that delta is still going to be around when it’s over and omicron is not likely to impart much immunity to getting the other strains of covid. It is just too antigenically different. Delta infection offers almost no protection against omicron infection and it’s entirely likely that omicron will offer no protection against delta.

I whole heartedly agree koods. If the whole general population was a just little healthier, a little less obese and less sedentary across the board, i bet that covid would have been way less of an issue. Still the top killing chronic diseases in the world are the main culprit of covid deaths. Reduce all the chronic diseases easily on the individual level, and you enjoy a massive reduction in covid deaths and hospitalization. What a utopia that could be. But no, keep open the flood gates of Coca Cola, Pizza, chips, candy and NetFlix binging!

Starting to look like the the lack of severity of omicron is somewhat of a fantasy. Hospitalizations are rising quickly and to make things worse, the monoclonal antibody treatments do not work with omicron. The fact that previously infected and vaccinated people are getting omicron has created the illusion that it is not as severe.

We really need to make unvaccinated life unbearable. It’s just unacceptable that we have to put up with this bullshit anymore. Let’s do what we used to do. If you’re not vaccinated and you are in public, you are fined. We already have a supreme court case ruling this is perfectly constitutional. Places in NY did that just a few years ago with measles. Unvaccinated children were not allowed in public spaces. Stop fucking around. These people are ingrates.

The government in my province keeps trying to portray itself as the people who saved Summer/big events/Christmas by always denying the oncoming freight train. They just relaxed restrictions when the numbers are going up again, strictly to be popular. Its this vicious circle they sweep in to "save Christmas" and then January until next summer will be a shitshow where we end up flying ICU patients 1000's of km away. They will enact a new lockdown sometime (mark my words) in January instead of now when it could actually do some good. Every bar I passed this weekend was packed, the malls are packed, and the airports are packed.

I envy forward looking nations like the Netherlands and Germany.

Some Dutch news:

We have been locked down HARD, this lockdown serves to BUY US TIME so that we can as fast as possible booster the population, even the military will be deployed to jab as many as possible.

17 million strong, the aim is 1 million boosters outbound this week, 1.5 million the next and then wing it asap.

It was pretty intense watching the prime minister's speech, they take it super serious, try their best to downplay it to avoid panic but its clear they're :dizope:
