Ahh im glad there are people that get it here in the pub...

Mass human culture sickens me. I was born into a world were the number one belief is that humans are the elite creatures of this planet, and that we can take as much as we want from earth because it is our divine right. Its ok to destroy forests for paper. Its ok to factory farm. ITs fine to drive a car that destroys our atmosphere. If something is in the way, destroy it, and everything will be fine.

I find myself out of place. I find myself wanting to get out of this system, this country. I have some native american blood in me, and i think this is were my spirituality comes from. I understand the principles of the natives, take what you need, but no more. That is our only right. We have no right to eradicate an entire species. And sure we do not see immediate consequences. But for every action theres a reaction, and it will come in due time.

The news about the mountain lion was supposed to illustrate the point that shows that as a majority we have very little regard for any life other than the life of our own species. We have moved into the natural habitats of a multitude of animals, that were given the right by Gaia to live and feed off of its land.

When a human spots a mountain lion "wandering" around out neighbor hood the first reaction is fear. That is fine, yes mountain lions have attacted humans before, but that does not give anyone the right to murder one. The most humane thing that could have been done would be to relocate the animal to a location were it can live away from humans.

This is just to illustrate the mindset of common man. Nothing more.

And yes, we are in iraq killing inocent people, and yes i do not want anything to do with this..

Your same argument can be turned 180 was my point. I dont see why humans are somehow worth less on the scale of life then a mountain lion is now, which generally seems to be the generic hippy view. Save this, dont hurt that, humans are evil blah blah blah. We are just creatures doing what we do. God forbid we are just better at surviving then other animals are.

When running from an argument/discussion, religioun/spirituality are always a good 'cop out'

The reason i bring up spirituality is becasue there are certain things that i have felt, there are certain experiences that have validated my beliefs. Sometimes logic and technicalities cant explain our mysteries.

While to you it appears to be a cop out, because i cant validate my point otherwise, to me it is the only thing i can say because some things you have to experience to actualy understand.

i never said that anyone elses spiritual experience was incorrect. You never mentioned any kind of spiritual experience, you just threw out cliche "your just a hippy" remarks. Ive seen it before, i dont understand why people like you post on these boards.

as much as i try to escape time, it is time for me to go.

I don't think were better at surviving than other animals. Humans are the only species that has to drastically change it's environment just to survive.
And by us changing the environment the way we do, we kill off other species.

actually, I was merely bringing up the opposite end of the argument. Im sorry if my choice in logic vs yours does not comply and therefore I shouldnt come here. Next time ill try to warp my beliefs to match exactly how YOU think I should think.

I dont understand why 'you dirty hippies' cant see general logic. Or something. Next time please think like me. thanks - your local mind control center.

survival is not marked by how well you treat your environment. Its marked by the proliferation of said species. we are better survivors because we more effectivly change our surroundings to meet our needs, instead of letting them kill us off. Adaptation is key.

Adaptation is you changing to suit your environment, not the other way around.

ex. Live in hot area, shed fur. Not cut down all the trees and build apartment buildings.

it just says improve the species condition there.. I dont remember the word 'adapt' being so specific about apartment buildings or HOW the creature adjusts. I think perhaps you are reading to far into the definition.

This thread has brought many thoughts to my mind. I used to be more on the fence pertaining to this type of subject, but I'm with mndfreeze all the way on this one.

--------------------

The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity. ~ Albert Einstein

C'mon- everyone knows that we are on the brink of destroying ourselves- and also that the viruses and bacteria and "diseases" that eat us are at the top of our food chain and that we should all just be friends.

We are dependent on our environment, thus we need to take care of it if we want to survive.  Just because we now have the means (as westerners) to exploit the rest of the world doesn't mean that the resources there won't someday soon run out. That is poor adaptation- poor enought to make us an extinct species.

Thus- according to Mndfreeze's definition, we are poor adapters.

You missed the point.

Obviously the mountain lion does NOT eat my children beacuse its dead. We are the dominiant species beacause so far nothing is stopping us. I never stated we were the longest LASTING, or had the highest population.

one mountain lion is dead. your kids are alive but someone elses may not be. that mountain lion may be dead, but another one may have his belly stuffed. the difference between the mountain lion and you my friend is that a mountain lion is not as likely to kill your kids as you are to kill his.

you think nothing is stopping us? we are stopping us. we are killing off the air, killing off our food supply, polluting the water supply, destroying all our natural resources. right now scientists are trying to unlock the nutritional value of sawdust due to the very possibility that in 50 years the earth will no longer be capable of producing food. why? because we are putting an end to everything that surrounds us, and in turn reducing our chances of survival as a species. if your idea of being the dominant species is constructing skyscrapers and roadways and having technology then i guess youre right but at what cost? greed is what characterizes humans and what separates us from nature. and that greed will be our downall. id like to see if this dominant species lasts another 500 years. at this rate i doubt it. look at all the sickness weve created in just the last 50 yeras. im out.
