Increasing minimum wage..

This bothers me... They want to raise the minimum wage amount to 15.00/hr.

Maybe 6 years ago I was busting my ass for 15.00 which I worked my ass off to get to. I've more than doubled my salary since, but still.

I don't think it's really fair that some shitty kid with a fucked up attitude working at McDonald's should get 15.00 an hour. The service quality isn't going to go up. The food quality won't go up. (Mcdonald's is trash)

I always felt that employees should be paid fairly depending on the job. I understand it might be a bit harder to regulate, but raising minimum wage and not other wages that are already over 15.00 is garbage..

I also understand that minimum wage use to be much lower. I remember getting 5.15/hr..

How do you feel about?

In the richest, most advanced country in the world, everyone that shows up and does an honest day's labour for 40 hours a week should be able to afford the necessities of life.

Most people don't get paid minimum wage, but many that have been will see their jobs cut, or automated. Increasing minimum wage needs to go hand in hand with increases in welfare to help those on the very bottom of the employment rungs. The Walmart Greeters, the recycling sorters, and others.

I think everyone deserves a wage that enables them to afford the basic necessities of life.

6 years ago you were underpaid. $15 per hour is not a lot of money. If you're lucky enough to get full time hours (most likely not since jobs aren't full time anymore) then that's still only $31,000 per year BEFORE taxes. After taxes, a 40 hour a week employee is in POVERTY if they only make $15/hr.

Everyone talks about raising wages but nobody talks about lowering the cost of living. Nobody would need raises if the cost of living didn't keep going up.

I agree with raising the minimum wage. People don't make enough to live off of right now. There are people who work 40 hours a week and still qualify for food stamps because they are paid so shitty. The tax payers are basically subsidizing companies to pay people nothing for the work they do. $15 an hour isn't even very much money at all. It isn't about "some kid with a shitty attitude" as you put it. It's about companies paying their fair share, and working people being able to afford the cost of living.

Somebody should calculate what the minimum wage would be if it got annual increases to account for inflation. My guess is that it will be around $15.

I don't think minimum wage should increase as much as employers should be investing in and giving incentives to their employees to increase their market value so that our economy naturally flourishes.

When minimum wage increases inflation counters a lot of relief from the increase in wages. If people do not become more valuable to the market forcing the hands of employers will make them automate more jobs and make the jobs that are available require mote qualifications than your average worker may have the ability to meet.

Greed is the issue from the employers side and entitlement from the employees. Somewhere in the middle the balance will either be met or there will be disorder.

There's no point in having those jobs if you think they're just for poor people and immigrants. Just do away with all of those services if you think they aren't worth someone doing for you, and everyone else. Regardless of what you think a monetary value is for a job, the completion of it requires incentive. Otherwise we are just slaves.

That's not what I'm saying.. there's other ways that would be much more stimulating and that would help others just live over struggle.. keeping wages alongside the cost of living...

I've worked just about every shit job that you can think off that def paid shit. I had to either work 2 jobs or work 60+ hours just to make ends meet.

All I'm saying is what I did for 15/hr compared what this guy will do for 15/hr isn't fair.. sure, I'm a bit salty, but I'm sure you can understand why..

Imagine how the guys felt in the early days of working extreme strenuous jobs for 1.00/hr. The jobs back then were extreme and hard and gut wrenching and life risking, but they did all just to make 60.00 a week and then not even 20 year later it jumps up to 3.00/hr and the jobs were easy peasy.

This argument can go on for days though. Do basketball players really need millions upon millions just to play a game? Do construction workers really need shit pay even though they are the building blocks to pretty much everything.. I worked construction and it fucking sucks.

You don't sound like you have a problem with it being 15, you sound like you have a problem that you had to work "really hard" when you were getting paid that much and now your jealous the McDonald's kid doesnt have too. And if you were getting paid about 5 you must be 50 and or live in Alabama? You sound jealous. You can't compare 2021 to the 90s or any other time. Or technological advancements have unevened the amount of work to be done in general, and our money is nearly worthless when you look at the cost of living, insurance whatever, and hopefully you don't live in a big city where they charge you 1200 for a studio, like pretty much everyone I know..

I do agree with you that they should raise all wages respectively. I was a line cook making 13, plus whatever the lazy ass servers decided I get. Now if I went back to cook, we would get the same, they get pretty much all the tips, and I'm busy my ass over a hot stove and this bitch is talking about her cat?! Believe me I feel that

I'm 36 and I started working at 15. Jealous? No, it does not affect me directly so I don't actually care.

Life is all about making life easier(more privileged) than it was for you. Plant a tree and someone else gets to enjoy it. But, a wage increase doesn't come without it's challenges. I am aware how  low minimum wage is in some areas. A near doubling of wages would either destroy small business even more or cost of living would go so high that it mimics deflation. It can't happen overnight and it shouldn't happen everywhere.

So raising the wage to 15.00 will help the starving kids around the world?

Like the guy said above, companies will begin to cut hours and find other ways to make their same profit and still pay the 15.00.

When I was making 15.00 min wage was 7.25. it's pretty much doubling now.. thing is that same company I did work for will not change their wage which means those guys will only be making min wage now.

With that being said, why should one work a brutal hard job for 15.00 when he can go work a shit fast food spot and make the same thing..

I'm not arguing the fact that there are people out there whom are struggling and will def benefit from the raise.. I am saying there had to be another better way..

No. But the attitude/ideology that we need so much or that this person has this or that so therefore... And this is what american teaches, keeps us racing.

And as liberal or communist or whatever you want to call it for how it sounds, I'm a firm believer that automation is getting us closer to a UBI, universal basic income. And it makes since, tractors cost jobs, yet increased profits and that's a perfect example of what's been happening to our country since the industrial revolution. We are living the craziest 200 years of man's excistance possibly.

And maybe that's it, you quit your job and go work for McDonald's and stop complaining? Or what your so committed to whatever you do in Babylon now that that's out of the question? Idk where people get all these expectations. People seem to be more and more entitled with every passing day. I tell you what if all the lights turn off, people like the rainbow family,and third world countries will be 10 steps ahead

Minimum wage jobs should be people's 1st jobs where they gain experience and learn how a few things about working with people.  They should not be viewed as jobs you can keep while you raise kids or buy a house and "be an adult".  The idea that McD's workers need $15/hour for working the drive thru is ridiculous. 

The cost of doing business does get passed on the to the consumer which means prices do go up (cost of living for everyone goes up) so if minimum wage jumps to $15/hour and you were making $16 an hour before that, it's very much like you got a pay cut because now you're only making $1/hr over minimum wage.

We need to get over the idea that every single job in America should pay well enough to raise a family on
