check out what i found in my lawn. Im not sure what it is though anyone have an id? Im taking a print right now.
I manured this section of lawn with composted manure, some hay and some cotamed florida cube spawn, i dont think its a cube though since its so small. No bluing, just a darker shade of brown where bruised.
I'll be throwimg some more manure over this patch for the hell of it, active or not.

i'll have the print soon for a more positive profile.

Look to be Pan Foen's. since they didnt bruise blue.
Those are the closest specimens of foens Ive seen that resemble Subbs so closely.
Nice Find,
Peace,
PF~
p.s.-bruise the very base of the stem and see if it turns blue, sometimes thats the only place I can get Subbs to bruise blue.

Well, here I'll take a shot at it. Thick stem- no not a cube- definately a paaeolus of some sort though you did not provide a spore print as is asked in the guidelines. Probably a sub or a variant that is marginally active at best. Wait a while for the bruising and please if you're gonna throw manure over good actives please send them to me instead of killing them! I see now at the bottom you'll do the print- sorry to jump to conclusions. The bruising will likely (if at all, which I suspect they will) occurr at the base of the stem or where you touched the stem. Happy shrooming.

Come on, thats a given. Thats all that was there besides 2 unmature ones i just picked. I spread a handful of composted manure over the 3'x4' patch and worked it in, then misted well with the hose.

I found the EXACT same things today. Hollow stems with fibrous material, browinsh bruising, black spore print, 2.5 cm caps, 7 cm stem, very skinny stem. Please reply ASAP.

I'm still waiting for a deeper print but initial prints on mine looked black. Maybe it's the hopeful side of me speaking, though. What other key things can I look for to distinguish between the two? Any help would be fantastic. Thanks again.

^^ I've visited that link a great deal in the past hour. Is there anything else that can be offered. For example, give specific feature differences between P. Foen. and P. Subb.

I believe pan subs have white fibers on its stem that pan foens do not. Also I have heard that pan subs will break if you try and wrap it around your finger, while pan foens will wrap around fine. Also watch for bruising.
Pan Foen pic from my back yard.

The two are so close macroscopically its almost impossible to tell, I hate finding a 300 plus patch of shrooms thinking them to be Subbs and then figuring out they are just inactive Foens. :enraged:

I've found quite the opposite. Pan foens' stems will snap very easily while the subbs' stems are fairly rubbery.

A few defining characteristics of pan subbs:
  • Brusing does not always occur... they're a weak mushroom
  • The fibers of Pan subbs do crazy things, they'll swirl and become wavy
  • Stems on subbs tend to be yello, brown, or reddish while foens have white to cream colored stems
  • The stems on Pan subbs tend to be pretty thick, while foens have fairly long and skinny stems that will snap easily
  • The caps of subbs will often be mis-shapen(not perfectly round)

For some pictures and more info on Pan subbs see this thread: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...t=2#Post2698048

Mine look identical to LoverOfMana's mushrooms. On the identification chart for P. Subb., there is mention of white fibrils in the stem; however, it does not say anything about white fibrils for P. Foen. Do both species have the hollow stem with fibrils?
