Cosmic_Flame said: gotta add on what CC said, love tarot art as well. I've always wanted a deck
I love the classic deck that (I believe) was made by bicycle. Salemtarot.com uses that deck and breaks down the main interpretation of the symbols when you pull the cards. Love it.
But I own the dragon deck

Dragons are masters of all elements. Water, earth, air, fire. Complete balance and harmony over the world and the strength to master all. And my higher mayan zodiac sign is Red Dragon so... always had an affinity for dragons but the internet says they're apart of me and I'm like I'll embrace that shit
For real though the deck is beautiful and I love pulling the cards.
Used to draw the ten of swords alot, which is of grief. Then I pulled alot of high priestess, which is about higher meaning in the contrast of balance. Now I pull alot of the five of cups which is all about disappointment and distance.
Fucking five of cups
I don't think any voodoo is needed to get significant things out of symbols. We notice what we and our subconcious wants us to notice. I know for a fact that I repeatedly pulled alot of other cards in my own readings and about the state of the world but those are ones I remember. Because they were shit that I either wanted or needed to realize/focus on and I'm smart enough to know it.
That's not to say I don't think I misinterpret the symbols sometimes. Totally do.
But for shits and giggles I decided to pull a 3 card for the state of the world (bloody world is the specific word my brain used.)
Past

Page of Wands Frequently, this card refers to you, or someone who strongly influenced your life in the situation, but does not have to be male. The Page of Wands indicates the beginning of a project, relationship, or path in your past. It can also indicate a lack of confidence in a new situation. This may have been expressed through indecision, confusion, or even “cold feet”. Examine your reasons for resisting a commitment to the that situation, and confront the issues that were raised by reflecting on the feelings, hopes, and fears it evoked.
Present

The Tower The Tower is the seventeenth card in the Major Arcana, and is given the number 16 to indicate the conscious mind represented by the Magician (1) faced with the breakdown of the unity found in the Lovers (6). Atop a craggy peak, the once-crowned Tower begins to crumble. Fire and Lightning ravage it from within and without. Two people, calling to mind the man and woman in the Lovers card (but clothed, indicating concealment), plunge to an uncertain fate, as flames erupt from the explosion. The destruction is devastating, but there is a purpose behind it. The walls of the Tower have been constructed by the materialistic Ego, and the force of chaos has come to tear them down in the name of spiritual development. The small, tear-shaped flames are symbolic because they resemble YOD, the first letter in the Hebrew name for God. They represent the spark of enlightenment that will brighten even the darkest hour.
Right now, you may be experiencing a time of turmoil. The phenomenon that “bad things” happen in threes, or other multiples, is a reality, and you may feel the rug of life being pulled out from under your feet. Like the Tower, you feel you have been struck from out of nowhere. Sometimes, a fire is needed to clear out dead wood, and clear space for the fresh seedlings that will someday be a great forest. If you feel overwhelmed, remember that you can only become stronger by surviving these trials.
Future

Five of Wands Healthy competition is indicated by the Five of Wands. Notice that nobody in the picture is causing harm to another. They are all simply vying for position. This card indicates that you will be in the position for success in business or in the workplace, but that competition could slow you down. Don't spend too much time on the weaknesses of others, rather than amplifying your own strengths and good qualities. Competition can often be good and force you to perform at your best level, but don't let it become an obsession for its own sake.
These readings are meant for individuals so I feel like the five of wands interpretation is entirely too optimistic (or misrepresenting healthy competition, could very well refer to us choosing not to drop nuclear bombs on each other.) But I think the warning is pretty appropriate.
And The Tower is spot-fucking-on.
But that's probably the main reason I enjoy this. I enjoy making connections through symbols. But I don't think it's a good idea to take the interpretation too seriously because symbols are meant to be obscure and vague. You put too much tangible or specific meaning on them and they'll probably turn out wrong.
It's why people think the zodiac is bullshit, tarot cards are bullshit, and the death card is a mortal sin. People take the meanings too literally and then too seriously.
Same could be said about some books I know...
