It snowed all day yesterday
it is snowing again today
under about a foot of fresh fallen snow

but within a week we should be above zero daily again
so it is going to turn around and melt into muck soon enough

Yeah it takes about 6 hours for our snow to do that. The next morning it's frozen mud.


Canadians always wonder why we view snow as a magical thing. That's why. It rarely comes and when it does it usually goes pretty damn quickly. Everyone down here remembers that time we got just under 2 feet and it stuck around for more than 2 weeks. Truly magical.

I'm motherfucking bored. It's not cuz I'm shut in (though that sucks too) it's cuz I'm having to work.


Pulled up one work task and the requester was like "I sent this over a week ago! Why's it not done?!?!"

Lady the world turned upside down a week ago. All of us trying to do this now have never done it before because the company pushed it to India and laid off the people who knew how to do it. We're doing the best we can. I'm working overtime all weekend to try to help you.

And the next task I pulled up just had a note "thank you, be safe!" Neither of these people know our situation. One assumes we're being incompetent and the other is like "hey I know shit's weird, don't worry about it."

And I'm like, no, thank you. :sadyes:


Seriously we all need to be understanding and forgiving right now. But I'm kinda used to having my department shit on, so I'm glad some people can remember we're all just people in a crazy time.

all told it will prolly be 2 feet of snow by the end of it
much of the fields and stuff were already completely melted before this came
once the sun gets on a bit of dark land it just soaks up the heat and melts the snow around it
sheltered in yards surrounded by trees (common for acreages because the wind on the prairies is so bad) still had snow drifts that this landed on top of

mostly it is just unusual to get so much so heavy at this time of year
snow in April is not uncommon, but more typically a light dusting

but yeah, can comprehend the sentiment
anything may be prone to lose its magic if you spend October to April under its weight
with the midwinter months being cold enough to kill the inadequately prepared

I dislike the snow cause what it does to traffic in my state. When it rains heavily people just lose all sense while driving, ice and snow? Its basically the apocalypse down here, ditched cars on the side of the rode, people sliding into the rails, its dumb.

Although if given the opportunity to live in Canada I wouldn't say no, I would learn to love the snow. I just might become Elsa :awesomenod:

That's the only right reason to hate snow in the south.

My 30 minute commute takes 2 hours in the snow because people don't understand how to drive when the road is slick and visibility is bad. Accidents everywhere.

yeah, have heard horror stories from Texas on the rare snows as well
up here most people put on snow tires, plug in the block heater in their car, adjust the morning routine to start the car 10 minutes before leaving
in high school we had a teacher move up from Florida and on the first snow+freeze of the year his car wouldn't start because he did not know about block heaters
just adjustments that have to be made

think Festival du Voyageur may have been one of the last social things in Winnipeg before things shut down
Elsa's sculptings would fit right in :tongue:

depends on where and how you play really :tongue2:
cut wood all summer and you may take to carving on breaks for fun
when it comes to chainsaws, it is a fine example of boys loving their toys

chainsaws work for ice too


Think the real thing that fascinates me about snow/ice sculptures is that they are made with a sense of transience
it can be as finely carved as can be, but it will still fade away sooner rather than later

like with Tibetan sand mandalas

In Texas if it rains they slam on the brakes, they freak out on sprinkling rain.:rolleyes: They will close the schools down for sleet or ANY bit of snow it seems, lol.

I just found the image online. IIRC larry/XLCaps is from somewhere near the butthole region though.
