i've got a problem. i had not run the computer with the fah program running on it for a couple weeks. i turned it back on and now it says it "can't find work instructions."

there is a blank under the "working on" section and "w/u progress" is staying at 0/0, even though the computer has been on for two days now.

anyone else experience this? the computer has not been online since i turned it back on because i am now connecting to the net via a wireless lan using my laptop. my desktop running the program can not be connected to this wireless lan and currently has no other means of connecting to the internet.

i think one possibility for the programs behavior is that maybe it finished the first 400 or 600 wu and needs to go online to send that progress and download a new work packet. is there a way to save the program's files and progress to disk and put it on my new computer? both computers are equipped with cdrw drives. desktop runs win 98, laptop runs xp. i don't know how to network these computers or i would have already done so.

Yea, after finishing a "Work Unit" (WU), FAH needs to connect to the internet to send the results and download a new WU. I don't think trasferring files to your new computer would be worth it, just download FAH and enter the same name and team # I guess.

(gen. reply) But FAH only needs to go online when it finishes a WU, and it uses a small portion of your bandwith for a short period of time. So if anyone is worried about FAH slowing down your internet connection, there's nothing to worry about. The Shroomery seems to be stuck at 188-189th place, lets get into the top 100!

ok, i've got that computer back online, but i still don't think it uploaded my 400/400 or 600/600 wu that were completed. it did download a new work packet though. i've got fah running on two computers now, soon to be three hopefully.

I don't know why, but that chart is 3 places lower always. We are currently ranked 187 in the list of teams, and we have added 30 new users since the creation of this thread. Keep it up!

Just thought I'd mention that those of you who are running Windows NT, 2000 or XP should check out my recently released Folding@home Service Installer. This program will allow you to install F@H as a Windows service, which is the fastest and most unobtrusive way to use the software. It's in beta right now so please contact me with any bug reports or feature suggestions. Thanks!

Up 16 positions and 45 users since the first post. Anyone else with a computer, even one gathering dust, INSTALL F@H. You have nothing to lose!

Is there a way to configure a service to run only at certain hours and days? I could install it on many more machines this way.

I didn't have much luck with your fahsi installer. It failed to start service on 2 machines running win2k and on 1 running winXp, while it worked well on 1 XP. I tried to install it as Admin and all machines have srvany.exe.
If I try to start the service manually I get the message that some files are missing.
