Millet...  u guys try milo? I love it but its more expensive than other grains here so I just mix it in at 1:3 milo to other grains

I asked and the guy went dear in headlights on me...

One of 6 blue oyster,  one of 13 cube cultures (for testing/science) and one shiitake... second round from an LC, going to drop these 3 and 9 others to the 12 bags I've cooling in Prestos in the AM before cooking another 25 dry lbs of oats for the other 8 drops... ahhh the life (cycle)

Gonna prep a few half pints and mabye a few quart jars using your tek tonight, I'll edit this post with the pics of how they turn out

I wish I could find milo! I can get all sorts of grains at the store right up the street EXCEPT for milo and rye :facepalm: I usually mix my own WBS and use millet,flax seeds, wheat, hemp hearts, and I've started adding buckwheat in to :shrug: no clue what kind of grain it even is but figured why not, I usually add in a small scoop of dry popcorn since it helps break up the colonized WBS when you shake it

I'd seen sand, and gypsum used for easier to shake spawn... I have opted to drop them just prior to full colonization to avoid any consolidation issues

Ill sprinkle some  gypsum over the grains once theyre dry an mix it in really well. About 1 handful for 25lb prepped, dried grain. Seems to cut down on myc sweat as well

Finally got around to trying it out and it works good! Only cracked 1 jar in the pc, did have a couple jars I forgot to pull out shake after PC'ing so grains kinda clumped up :shrug: I can just break up the clumps with my x acto knife when dropping agar in

I used millet, flax seeds, buckwheat, hemp hearts, and wheat

Don't molest the grain, it'll colonize fine, break it up once you G2G(with your hands while mixing the bag(from the outside of the bag, jeebus)) or upon spawning...

Oh it roughly doubles in size, sorry though I should've specified those are half pints and the first pic is a quart :rofl2: but it does fluff up alot, the first time i used WBS I filled up jars like i would for oats (about 2/3-3/4 way high) and they burst the tops off some of my plastic jars

Yeah, the recipe allows about an inch and half for shake tolerance... USUALLY... Sometimes they're just like...  WHOOOP!!!

Iā€™m between projects right now but I gave this a try out to have as an option down the line. I work with ziplock pints for masters and ran a few with slightly different water levels. One exactly per the tek, one just a little over and one just a little under. I sifted my wbs and it was mostly free of corn & sfs before it went in the pc. 15 psi for 1:45. The slightly under ziplock container came out looking great and was very shake able. The other two seem like they would probably do fine, but the slightly less water recipe seems to be perfect for doing this tek in the ziplock containers. Looking forward to dropping myc into one sometime soon.

So I tried doubling the recipe for quarts with winter wheat and the bottom of my jars got a bit overcooked and mushy. Mostly the jars resting in the water, but I will dial it down to .5cups water 1.5cups winter wheat. Still gonna use em:smoker:

Tried out this prep last night and I both love and hate that these are the best looking grain jars that I've ever made. Thanks for the TEK, I'm pretty excited to see how fast they can colonize.

I scaled these proportions up to use with bags of millet.  2146g millet, 1372 water. I add millet master to the bags, they colonize like WILDFIRE!!!
