Best tool to cut straw?
    #26168190 -

I am cutting straw with a machete from the field near my house. To make it smaller i am using simple scissors but i found it very very slow and painfull for my hands.

I tried with this :

But i do not like the straw cutted in this way. Some is too thin and some is too large and long.
I was thnking something like this:

Or like this:

What do you think?

Run a lawnmower over it or put it through a wood chipper.

But if you're in a hurry, and really got to go
If you're in a hurry, might have to find out slow
That it's one thing to try and another to fly
You get there quicker just a step at a time
It's one thing to bark, another to bite
The show ain't over till you pack up at night

They make smaller chipper shredders, but don't waste your money on a lil fucker. IMO you want something that will last and cam mamnage some real work.

I second the lawnmower.  Works great and most have one.

These are also a great solution:

I get them from TSC store and they're pretty convenient. They're only 1$ more than buying a regular bale from a local farmer. Chopped to about 2" peices.

Save yourself some hassle and get the pre-cut stuff. I used to chop my own bales of straw and it sucks.

Totally worth the extra pennies to save yourself a bunch of time and headache IME.

I cannot.
I live in Central America and i have to prepare myself the materials.... this is why i do not use cocco coir: here there are coconuts everywhere but to make one poud of cocco coir i have to work many hours!!! Straw is much faster but by hands is little bit slow...

What crop is your straw from? What machinery that spins blades do you have access to?

Equine and bovine dung should be widely available for free I would imagine. I know that it wasn't the question that was originally asked, however it's something to keep in mind.

I have a field with just grass for horses. I bought the field 3 years ago and we are planting trees , but the first owner had horses and few cows so this grass is growing everywhere as we do not have animals. Is pretty tall grass , and pretty woody ( i like it because cubes like it the woody part. what they do not like is the powder of the grass when is cutted tio small ) . Here is called Zacate Guinea.
I tried with Machete but is dangerous and need time  to make is small . Scissors is fine but i have blisters in my habds  to make a mono tube . The best machine is the wood chipper looks like , but you know , is pretty big, expencive and in this moment i cant . I was thinking in something smaller as electric scissors or i do not know ...

Just use some composted manure from a local field, ask permission first obviously. I guarantee it will be easier than cutting grass by hand.
