Fruiting slow colonizing jar and contamination risks
    #26160302 -

Hi to everybody! First of all thanks for all your support and knowledge, last 6 months have been crazy regarding how much i learned (still no fruits since i have taken some very dumb and ignorant aproaches to mycology)

So here is the deal, i bought a galindoi syringe about a year and a half ago, the spores apeared to have germinated on the syringe itself, so i nocced them in a LC (didnt have any petris at the time, now i do) and it grew some slow growing mycelium, with which i inoculated a rye jar (All of this in an attempt to rescue some spores to make some prints since i am brok AF and cant afford more spores).

The thing is that the jars where inoculated about a month ago, and now are about 90% colonization after a shake i did last week.
My concern is that either the mycelium is just too old or the most likely there is some kind of contamination slowing things down. After making the LC I got into ahar and tested it, and everything appeared to be clean.

So my question is the following, is there too much risk to try and fruit it in a shoebox with some coir? Or should i better fruit them in the jar?

I will upload a photo later on but the mycelium looks healthy, white and should be 100% in 2 days I estimate.

Thank you again to everybody!

Edit:
Jar was inoculated on 8/8 with a very premature and slow growing LC which appeared to be clean on agar, and shaken at 10% colonization on 22/8.
My understanding is that it should have colonized much faster

I'd personally treat the one jar as a master jar and make secondary / slave jars, even more so if you ran the LC on agar and it appeared clean...then from those slaves  I  would do shoeboxes...but someone with more experience may have a better suggestion. Good luck!

Do you mean to make a G2G? I dont think i have the necessary sleight of hand for such a maneuver in a SAB yet

I do not trust very much that LC i dont know if the slow growth is due to old myc, contam, or maybe even the fact that i used dark malt syrup to make it

You could try top fruiting it, just throw some hydrated coir on top once its fully colonized and use a ziploc baggy over the jar to keep it from drying out.

Spawn it to shoebox. Case at full colonization. Fruit it untill it stops flushing and then collect any stones that form. Clone and print what you can/like. You may want a cubensis to get started on as they are a bit more straightforward. Once you get access to the marketplace you should have little trouble with your budget concerns.

Thank you all! I guess ill try to fruit it in a shoebox then.

Yes i tried starting with cubes, but al my syringes got contaminated. Got some GT arriving soon to get started.
Galindoi seemed atractive to get sclerotia but i still have a long way to go working properly with agar.

Will update once i get the first flush

So, finally the jar reached 100% colonization. The mycelium looks very healthy but i have a lot of doubt regarding the bulk substrate ratio. I dont want to fuck up at this point.
I was thinking of doing 1:2. A part of me gets the feeling that its not a large amount of bulk substrate to be colonized and another part of me says that 1:1 may be more safe.

Since the shake at 10% it took about 15 days to reach 100% so i get a feeling that the mycelium could handle a 1:2 i would spawn to coir

What would you suggest?

I dumped 1.5 quart spawn in a 66Gal tub... it finished colonizing in two days... I don't measure bulk, I do what feels right.  I only used coco alone.  To those who don't believe me, I have two more 66's lined up within a week or two... I will show you.  That's what you get with super-healthy myc from agar.

that sure seems low on spawn to me for such a big tub tho i kno i use 3qt spawn 6qt bulk in a 32 qt tub and usually takes bout 12-16 days for pins

I think I make my substrate a little thinner than others... I am not so worried about flushes after the second one.

OP your spawn looked good and sound like it is on an appropriate timeline. Post a pic of it now for final input, but 1:1 or 1:2 is fine. It would make sense to just do 1:1 as the casing will help with moisture content.

atmoz do u have a pic?? im not sayin i dont belive u but even healthy spawn takes longer than that to completely recover after spawning let alone completely colonize a 66qt tub even wit a 2 inch sub just dont add up in my head is all

Thank you! Here is a pic

It looks very healthy to me.

I am quite confused in regards how to do a casing, i know that for cubes it may not be necessary, i dont know about galindoi, but anyways it wony hurt using one.
The thing is i have not been able to understand when to put a casing. Some people case with coir when spawning to bulk, but the coir simply colonizes. IM CONFUSED I KNOW

I would rather not take that risk, cant afford to have this jar contam as i dont have any spores unfortunately!

Galindoi is a stone producer and there are teks and a whole thread you should check out. Typically people case after the sub colonizes for stone producers.

i agree tht ops jar looks good for sure i just am having a hard time seeing how atmoz 1.5 qt spawn in a 66 qt tub completely colonized in 2 days am i the only one who thinks that dont sound like mycelium ??

Well its a pretty big day for me.

Finally spawned the grains to coir 1:1.5 and used the rest to case right away since i dont want to go through the hassle of casing later on when i dont have a lot of experience and risking contamination. Also the teks regarding sclerotia producers are a few years old, just went with my gut feeling
Also took 2 grains and put them on agar and did G2G to a half pint to see how well it does sclerotia.

Here is a pic of the shoebox.

Will update once i have some news in a few weeks

This was four days into it yesterday and everyone says it's a beautiful sub:
