I' ve yet to hear from anybody who has actually grown morels. From what I've heard, none of these kits actually work to completion. If they were easy to grow, there would not be thousands of people heading to the Yukon and northern Canada every year to pick them commercially.

I've heard there is one company that has developed a method for growing them but they have the patent.

I've seen other methods described that involve many complicated steps, equipment and patience but I've yet to hear of success.

Hi Azure, according to Paul Stamets it seems that you have a much better chance if you plant them outside where there has been a fire as you mentioned. There seems to be something in the burnt area that benefits them.

Head for the Yukon for the big forest fire sites!
Actually, I've heard of them popping up even where there were just small camp fires but don't get your hopes up, they are almost impossible to cultivate..

Turns out the old captain is right...the spawn is dead. When I mixed the spawn with bran, it took off and even started to form sclerotia about two weeks later. When the bran was fully colonized, I mixed it with sawdust and burnt woodchips. They never recovered from that.

I finally found a wild morel. I tried to take a print, but couldn't. However, spores began to germinate, so I put some mycelium on agar.
