Mushrooms are not potent. Help me troubleshoot?
    #26108853 -

OK - here is how I am comparing an confirming the idea of my shrooms lacking potency.

I have recently eaten several ounces that I bought. From these ones, 3 grams or so would put me into a good trip. 5 would be an intense trip, and 10 was close to a hero's journey. The experiences from these are what inspired me to grow my own. The first ounce or so I harvested was from brf cakes. I got my spores from a trusted vendor where many people on here get their ms syringes.

When I ran out of the last ounce I bought, I ate mine for the first time. I assumed that the doses were the same. I ate 3 grams of my shrooms. It honestly felt like I at 1 gram at the most. * A couple differences I noticed were the difference in strength of smell, taste and color (less bruising on mine)*

I then tried 4-5 grams, and even that didn't feel closr to as intense as 3 grams I ate from the ounces I bought. I was stating to sense something was wrong, but thought, OK, maybe I am building a tolerance. My friend recently came up and we were planning on eating them together. I said fuck it, I am going to eat 8 grams this time. I did, and it still didn't even hit as hard as three from the ones I bought.

I am now convinced there is something noticeably different with my shrooms.

Here are my main theories
- I assume that the people who grew the ones I have bought used agar. Because I am not yet using agar (though I ordered the supplies the other day), I do not have the advantage of selecting the best myc.

- I have been dehydrating at what the preset 160 degrees or so is, and that is killing potency (though I have read heat doesn't kill potency until extreme temps).

- Is this a result of growing on BRF cakes?

Anyfeed back would be great, I am pretty bummed about this!

It's just a result of genetics. Agar will help, you have to grow until you find high potency genetics and clone and grow. It's a pain in the butt.

What recipe would you recommend for agar. Can you also explain the difference from a pour/no pour dish?

I use a simple, one teaspoon of agar, two teaspoons of potato flakes and a half cup of water, and a drop of honey. No pour agar would be like a pasty plate. You put your agar into the container and PC the entire thing. Pour agar would be where you pretty much PC your agar and then pour into your Petri dishes. Hopefully that made sense

Yeah genetics can be a bitch. Just do a lot of reading. Check at the agar envy threaded. Search no pour. Just try a take in everything you can and figure out which tek works for you. Right now I am doing no pour as I'm just starting and with no pour I know if I get contams constantly it's my technique.
So far the starting and first transfers look to be clean so that gives me a little more confidence to want to pour my own in fl size petri dishes.

I am using LME at 2g agar 2g water 100ml. So far seems to be working ok in the no pour. Only complaint so far in the condensation on the no pour makes it hard to see with the current dishes I am using.

That's a common thing with no-pours; hard to see inside. Regular petris can be the same way if there is a lot of condensation, but technique helps a lot.

There are a bunch of suitable agar recipes. Grain soak water, potato flakes, malt extract, even dog food works. I use 8-10g of malt extract, 8-10g of agar, and 400mL of water.

I can recommend potent strains(Orissa India, Puerto Rican, golden teacher) BUT people throw fits and say strain doesn't matter. Pfft I say wrong, whatever..

You could put straw, horse manure, and grains. I have seen a lot of well reasoned arguments for why this may assist you. I'm sure people will still argue, fuck em..

I could tell you to pick before the veil breaks or before spore deposit. This one no one will argue unless they are a damned fool.

The final advice is to avoid using dextrose or ingredients that add sugars in your LC as this speeds up the process and slow but steady colonization is the WAY. I've actually ran into this and ignored it for a long time because mine are always potent for the reasons listed above.

If you still have problems then the problem could be set and setting. Fast or exercise before and stop being an obese POS. Luv u.

-never used agar, never constructed laminar flow hood, never had problems with potency (spore>lc>grain>sub) Follow any panaelous thread by Blue Helix, and that is precisely how it is done.

-strap two 20"x20" a.c. filters to a 20"x20" box fan with bungee straps and your fruits in the middle. No heat that way and that's ballin' on a budget

-BRF can be good not great, adding horse poo to brf method actually works and I have even done it with RR sterilization method and no pressure cooker. Spore to sub and it works with proper care for whole procedure.

MS grows can seriously be a bitch. One time I grew B+ and I couldn't even feel them. I would just skip the cubensis strain and go straight to panaeolus cyanescens. It's more potent and gives a better trip. I don't see the point of doing all that isolation work with cubes when you can do that work for a better species. I'm personally done with cubes. I want the best ones lol.

Mind sharing how/if you make the temperature cooler in your set up?

I didn't catch what variety you grew. I only hear of this happening with B+ and GT.

It's been a clusterfuck of a bunch so far, mostly GT and amazonian from my cakes. Have some B+ and Malabar in shoeboxes that I am hoping turn out better.

Far as I know, the potency is mostly genetic. Doubt it would have to do with selecting the best growth...fast growth and potency are two different gene expressions. I'm afraid you could never select mycillium based on potency, and I'm pretty sure the conditions are not so poor that it would effect potency.

Get yourself an ape syringe and learn agar. Can't find one person saying apes were not strong. And you don't have to change anything. Treat em like cubes they are just slow AF.

Yeah it only really becomes apparent how much weak shrooms suck when you get good shrooms.

Cause it isn't just a case of eating more, they are just missing something (psilocin) that no amount will ever give them, kinda like LSA extractions compared to whole seeds, or using psychedelics with a tolerance. I grew some Cambodians multispore though once and granted I was using an unreliable jewelry scale to measure them, but just a few grams blasted me into a level 4 trip, and made me think/feel as if I was on the verge of being possessed at times. Kinda shrooms that  one had to be very careful with.

Sad thing was that although I had a shit load of them cracker dry, and stored in air tight containers, over time they did start to lose that factor X (psilocin) that made them so incredibly potent.

Everything you said is false.

Strains can be potent or not. Each variety has thousands of possible strains. Manure/substrate does NOT determine potency, neither does ingredients in the LC you use..slow colonization is a sign of contamination.

Fat people can trip too:lolfat:

You can also pick whenever you want. Spore dropping wont affect potency. They are not related.

Could your potency issues be due to tolerance build up? I read on here that your tolerance is at 400% for a day or two, so if you take 3g then it would take 12g to get near the same trip with the next day or so. It takes a couple of weeks to get your tolerance back down again. Before growing, I only ever had liberty caps when they were in season, and it's always the first trip that was the best. With homegrown it's been varied experiences.

To make agar I chop a few cleaned potatoes into cubes, throw into a pan of water and boil for 10 mins or so, until the potatoes are just tender. Drain the water into a jug or bowl to use for the agar. Msure out 500ml of it, add 10g agar, 1 tsp honey and a few drops food colouring, whisking well.  Maybe not the best recipe but it's worked for me so far. Simmer it for a few mins and then I use it in no-pour plates.

Don't throw the potatoes out! Place drained potato cubes back in the pan on the heat, shake about briefly to get them dry and a bit fluffy. Then deep fry them until golden. Remove from the oil, add salt and ta da you've got agar plates and supper.

Here is a sign that you may be wrong: usage of the word "everything"

Incorrect as far as I can tell because I mentioned strain potency, so that disproves the everything statement right off.

Plus, im overweight.. thats why I can say that. A little bit of exercise during a lackluster trip can up your being receptive to it. Apparently you havent resorted to using panaelous subbaeteatus.

When did shroomery become toxic to a little sense of humor? I was trying to help, but OP and lame fucks took everything personally because everything someone says must be about YOUR "feelers". Its really disheartening to find this when I come back to my favorite forum after a hiatus.

Bodyweight is irrelevant when it comes to mushrooms. We have a sense of humor, but no tolerance for misinformation. You were/are incorrect and have a bad attitude.

You were saying things that are false. So I said what you said was false. Because it's the truth and you are spreading bullshit.
