Good brand of coir? I keep having problems here and there

I've read different people recommend different things. Like some experienced folks use eco earth and I've found seeds in it and seen contams quickly from that batch. I've been using black gold coir and just found something speckled across the top of the surface of the casing on 2 different tubs with 2 different varieties growing in them, both were spawned on the same day with the same coir/verm  casing mixture. The contam was quite obviously on the surface as it was just little dots on the very top and since it was still white I carved it out to see and the coir underneath it was totally loose, uncolonized and showed nothing and the spawn and sub are still not even close to coming up through the casing. I know bad spawn is usually the culprit but this is too quick and right on the surface, and its from 2 totally different strains yet its the same exact weird little specs. I just spawned them like 4 days ago as well. I have a bunch of other tubs going fine, I've seen this before albeit rarely and scraped it off while it was still white and then went multiple flushes. It seems like coir has bad batches with some crap in it sometimes. Sometimes seeds, sometimes who knows what. Anybody have a coir brand that's consistently clean? Wtf. I spread my coir out and inspect it before pasteurizing it and didn't catch this, judging by the way the contam showed up its little specs of something nutrient dense

If you're getting contams in tubs, the spawn got contamed in the beginning of the process. Most likely a flaw in your inoculation/sterilization.

Right on the tip top surface and the myc hasn't even reached up through the casing at all yet. I'm aware that its often a spawn thing. This is something different, it's obvious that its just something scattered across the surface of the coir. little white dots. When I scraped it off the casing was totally loose and uncolonized underneath. Not really possible for it to be spawn from what I can tell

4 days is long enough for some molds to make it to the surface from the spawn. I can't tell you for sure if that's what's going based on the info you've given but I can tell you I've never seen mold appear on unspawned coir after only 4 days. It sounds like you had something in the spawn that was trigger to start producing spores by the change in nutrient content when you added it to the coir.

Well fuck me. So little invisible to the eye threads of mold mycelium lacking virtually any noticeable substance (seemed like absolutely nothing was there underneath when I scraped it off) can reach up to the surface and colonize a bit and then sporulate in that short of a time? If that's what happened that's impressive!

The casing was about 1/3" deep and mostly uncolonized and it was all loose and seemed like nothing was there underneath

I've never kept cooked coir around without throwing spawn in it. That'd be an interesting control, although with the low frequency of junk I find in the coir from time to time chances are it wouldn't tell me much. Maybe next time I find some seeds or other nasties in it I'll cook it and keep it around to see what happens.

Also I was posting pics on another thread you chirped in on about some of my plates with meshed molds, these tubs came from the other plates of mine that looked flawless. I guess the only thing helpful at this point is to assume it was dirty spawn, maybe bad G2G. Thanks Kizzle

Most molds and their spores die off between 140-160. If you're bucket tekking your spawn with proper roiling boil water your temps should be staying above 140 for at least 30 minutes. It's pretty unlikely that the issue is stemming from your coir.

Not true. It will mold but it's very resistant. It is probably the spawn  but I just can't stand seeing misinformation Spread.

I didn't mention that my sub is manure and coir. I only mentioned the coir casing because I assumed what was speckled on the very surface had to be coming from the casing. Kizzle's tips about mold reaching up to surface quickly got me thinking. I know it still probably is spawn but I wonder if folks have bad experiences with manure sometimes. I'm switching to a coir substrate from here forward to eliminate variables but has anyone had problems with some batches of poo even when pasteurized properly? I've been using dehydrated manure that I purchased in bags, its moodoo brand.

The strange thing about all of this is the tubs that showed contams were all loaded on the same day with same batch of substrate and casing, and they're all showing the same contam at the exact same time, yet I have other tubs of the same strain that I loaded a few days before that are having no problems at all. Also the places where I carved out the contams (it was still white and not sporulating) it has not come back.
