Sterilising VS Pasteurising Coir Based Substrates

I’ve had multiple people say that pasteurisation leaves beneficial microbes to fight off contam, and then people say coir is sterilised to begin with and has no beneficial microbes and that I should sterilise rather than pasteurise.... and that you should only pasteurise manure based substrates. Which leaves me to believe that if you sterilise you should inoculate under flow hood conditions... rather than spawning straight to a monotub. Now does anyone on here have the knowledge to actually clear this up?

I'll pasteurize a casing but half of us jst hydrate our coir with cool tap water. Someone did a side by side and the cool water coir did noticeably better. I'd pasteurize turds if i had a need for 'em.

You don't need to pasteurize or sterilize coir. It's a naturally contamination resistant material which may be due to the oils and acids contained in the fibers.
Many of the proven cultivators around here don't bother to even use boiling water to hydrate it anymore. I do simply because I think that it results in better coir but it's wholly unnecessary unless your coir has been treated with beneficial fungus for plants. If not then hot water works just fine.
When I say it's contamination resistant I mean mold spore has a hard time germinating on it, live mold mycelium has no problem just as our cubensis mycelium has no problem with it. Contaminated coir originates from either contaminated spawn with germinated mold mycelium or opportunistic mold germinating on dead mycelium/dried out exposed grain.
I spawn monotubs with my bare hands in my living room, I also do lots of bottle grows by hand palming coir into the bottles. No problems. Don't overthink coir.

The spawn is resistant to contamination and the bulk (coir + verm/gypsum) won't germinate hardly anything no matter how you prepare it. So it doesn't need any kind of sterile processing at that point.

Bodhisattas' tek says mycelium prefers cooked coir.
I'm going to give his tek a shot in the future.

What! Last I read it was just use hot tap water, it's around 140F. So who or where did you get that info. I need some convincing!

depends. if you sterilize poop and want to spawn/inoculate the poop you must do so under sterile conditions.
thats why bottles or bags that contain manure need to be treated with the same care as grain spawn. sterile inoculation and colonization.
pasteurization allows you to colonize the manure in open air with grain spawn.
none of these rules apply to coir. you can do whatever you want with it.

That's only if you luck into those trich supplemented bricks, god forbid.
