Pinning inside BRF jar? * 1
    #26058766 -

Hi All,

I tried searching the forums for someone having a similar situation, but didn't find anything that looks quite the same.

Basically, I started my inoculation process on this jar on May 1st, Just got back from an extended stay out of town and come back to this.

Seems like some kind of pinning? I'm not exactly sure since this is my first grow.  If anyone with some experience could educate me on what I'm seeing here I would really appreciate it.

I'm guessing that this is probably a sign that I should have started the fruiting process already, and should get on that ASAP?

yes, it's invitro. you can move it to FC.

thanks for the reply, I started my process creating a SGFC and am currently in the dunk phase of the dunk and roll (been follwing evilmushroom666s BRF tek)

As an aside, once I removed the cake I got this stem from the pin inside the jar, I was just wondering if it's possible this is usable.  The entire jar smelled really good, like fresh mushrooms, nothing suspicious about in terms of smell or color.  Take a look at this stem and let me know what you're thoughts.  If they are usable, what would be the process for making them edible?

your not gonna want your SGFC covered up like that when your fruiting. other than that it all looks normal to me.

Invitro pinning happens. It just means the shrooms want to fruit and that the cake is more than ready for fruiting. Consoldation complete.

Yeah, dont cover the SGFC up, it prevents it from working correctly.

yep, uncover it and filter holes. invitro pins, if not an aborts, are safe as normal pins.

I've only covered the SGFC for now, while i'm waiting for my cake to dunk, just so nothing funky gets inside.  Thanks for the heads up.

Hey iler! Good luck with your grow! If you haven't seen it, my recent ducmented grow w/ BRF cakes taught me a lot.

The most relevant things is mention to you are:

Get that SGFC some more open air. I put mine in a tent and had a lot of issues getting healthy growth.

Once you have mushrooms growing, Don't mist a ton before bed and lights out. It evaporates slower bc of the reduced themps and can cause your caps to deteriorate.

Last - WATCH FOE THE VEILS to break. Once they break, harvest ASAP. None of my cakes are growing on 2nd flush bc I let spores drop all over my cakes, which apparently tells them to stop growing mushrooms as much (or in my case, at all)

Are you just growing that one cake or are the others consolidating?

Good luck!!!

Thanks for the support and the tips. Much appreciated.

Do you think I should remove the polyfill from my SGFC holes?  I know EM666's guide does not mention putting polyfill in the holes, but as I saw many other guides with it I decided to try it. If my understanding is correct, loosely packed polyfill in the holes helps to reduce possible contamination while still providing a decent rate of fresh air exchange.

Also as far as misting and fanning, how much would you recommend at this stage?

I'll keep note of the misting once they're growing, and harvesting them as soon as the veils break, thanks for that.

Unfortunately, at the moment I only have this one cake.  I think it's kind of interesting though because it has forced me to be very careful with all my actions and make sure I know what I'm doing before I do it. Since if I fuck up at all, there goes all my potential crop lol.

Planning after this first harvest to start a 2nd flush on this cake, and start up a few more BRF jars for inoculation.

Unfortunately I don't know much about polyfill holes :frown:

I totally feel you on wanting to avoid contams. None of my cakes contaminated b/c I was so careful, but I wish I had not been so protective of them b/c I ended up giving them bad FAE and misting to keep them 'safe'. Instead I starved them. As a newbie, I think I took too much precaution. I have a cat who pees around the room my SGFC was in, and while not a total slob am not the cleanest person either. None of my 5 cakes contaminated, so I think... if I were you I'd prioritize great conditions and just let that puppy fruit out in the open if at all possible. I eventually moved my SGFC into my cat's domain and despite finding some cat hair on the cakes, nothing else went amiss.

Search for the 'misted cake project' to get a good idea of how much to mist. The important thing to remember is you are misting the CAKES (verm) and not the mushrooms. Do your best to avoid misting mushrooms directly.

Hope your second flush goes better than mine! Remember to dodge those spore drops, don't dunk forever for you 2nd flush (1-3 hours seems to be great for most ppl), and keep asking questions!

Seems like I've got my first signs of growth.  Been fanning/misting twice a day, once in the morning, once before sunset.

Take the poly out of the holes and you won't have to fan at all!  :awegroove:

Misting isn't a time schedule...it's as needed.

Got it, thanks man.

The once in the morn/evening misting seems appropriate since it seems pretty dry when I go to do it at these intervals.

In the future, be sure to load that sucker up with cakes....the more cakes the more efficient the SGFC becomes.

This picture is trippy. I like it :awesome:

And as others have said, mist only as needed, dont mist on a schedule. And try to not soak the cake. A little misting is fine but dont drench it in water.
