If the punishment for physical abuse is physical abuse, would less people commit it? What can stop someone from being violent in a given moment?

Physical punishment don´t fix traumas and reasons behind peoples actions, Therapy does.

Ending wars with bombs has not been working really well in history.

That’s a bad cycle to start.  Who is going to do the ‘corrective abuse’?  People who work in corrections are more fucked up than a lot of people being caged.  Shit’s not just.  Allowing randoms to beat other randoms is a pandoras box that would set this whole bitch ablaze..

All outward violence is created by inner violence. It requires awareness and skill to recognize unskillful thoughts (rooted in desire, aversion, or delusion) and how this type of thinking can motivate violence behavior. Cognitive violence is a fascinating subject and one that is rarely discussed. This applies to suicide also. Murder-suicide letters give us a glimpse into the violent mind.

Bet those kids would have beat on anyone who looked at them at that stage of the night.

I've seen that shit before. The fact that the couple was gay was just the excuse they used.

Thuggish behavior by groups of youth is nothing new. I saw it 25 years ago, may father described it 50 years ago, and I bet it was happening 100 years before that.

From a comment on that article someone is posting the guys who did the attacking were muslim and that seems to be a thing with them over there.  Perhaps it’s a little deeper than just kids being kids although I agree with what you said.

I don’t know who the attackers were.

A child is an expression of hope for the future. The subject line is a passionate reaction to an act of cruelty. Sadly, and globally, these types of attack are becoming more and more commonplace.

You don't get out much do you?

Great Britain is not part of the Schengen Treaty and,as such, requires a passport to enter, even from the EU. The incident has nothing to do with open borders anyway as the description of the assailants (at least so far) indicates that the majority of them were Brits.

And besides what the hell does politics have to do with attacks such as this one anyway. You've basically got a bunch of idiots running around beating up people who are just minding their own business. London, Dallas, The Middle East, Portland, Indonesia... It doesn't fucking matter where you are there are people so frightened that their lives are worthless wastes of oxygen that they take it out on the people who are least able to defend themselves. Regardless if you're a snowflake leftie or a shit-for-brains, right-wing tea-bagger everybody should be able to feel safe to live their lives how they see fit.

I think this whole thing is being blown out of proportion
If they showed a video it would ease all qualms about who's right and wrong
But they obviously don't want to do that because it'd implicate the woman

"Fun" and almost similar
an attack by teens/preteens in Saskatoon was caught on video

Quote:
Police have charged a 13-year-old girl after two assaults, including one that was recorded by a bystander at Pleasant Hill Park in Saskatoon.

The teen appeared in Saskatoon provincial court on Friday. She cannot be named because of her age.

The slim, short-haired girl wore a purple T-shirt and had a heavily-bandaged right hand. She indicated to Judge Doug Agnew that she understood her release conditions that include having no contact with 12 youth identified as either persons of interest or suspects in the alleged assaults.

Agnew rejected a Crown request to impose a 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew. The assaults were both alleged to have happened early evening or during school hours.

The 13-year-old was released into the custody of her parents, who were in court. She is scheduled to return June 6.

The May 20, 2019 incident was recorded by a bystander. A 33-year-old woman said she was set upon by several youth at about 7 p.m. CST.

Bonnie Halcrow, who lives in Flin Flon, Man., but was visiting Saskatoon, told CBC News she had bruises to her back, arms and legs after she was assaulted.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatoon/saskatoon-pleasant-hill-park-assaults-charges-1.5148490

and while video was published in that instance, the man who filmed it said he was afraid to intervene because he feared dealing with kids would get him kicked out of the country
Quote:
A man who filmed children attacking a woman in Saskatoon says he made the hard decision not to intervene because he was concerned about potential implications on his permanent residency application.

The graphic video of the assault went viral. Viewers expressed shock and dismay at the violence, but also raised questions about why the man who filmed it did not step in to help the victim.

The 29-year-old from Africa contacted CBC to explain what happened. CBC agreed not to name him because he fears for his safety.

On Friday, Saskatoon police charged a 13-year-old girl with two counts of assault. One relates to an alleged attack May 13 at Pleasant Hill Park, and the second to the assault captured on video. In a news release, police said there were number of other youths identified as being involved in the assaults but, because they are under the age of 12, no charges will be laid.

The 13-year-old appeared in youth court and was released into her parents' custody and will return to court in June.

The girl indicated in court that she understood her release conditions that include having no contact with 12 children identified as either persons of interest or suspects in the alleged assaults.

The witness said he'd gone to the inner-city park to meditate and read. He came to Canada in 2010 and was two days away from getting his permanent residency, the culmination of a nine-year journey .

He had a lot on his mind, he'd had a rough day and just wanted to gather his thoughts before heading to work.

Then he said he saw "kids throwing stones at a guy that was going by. I was like, 'Stop that. That's not right. That's not a very nice thing to do.'

"And the kid was like, 'You're not my dad.'"

Then, Bonnie Halcrow and her 10-year-old daughter arrived. The 33-year-old from Flin Flon, Man., was in town visiting and came to Pleasant Hill Park so that her daughter could meet a friend.

Halcrow witnessed the stone throwing and began recording the boys with her phone.

The 29-year-old man said he was also hit by a stone and the children shouted racial slurs at him.

The man said he made some fast and hard choices. He weighed the desire to lash out physically against possible legal implications of touching a child, and whether it could affect his residency.

"It took everything in me not to react," he said.
Children swarm woman

The man ignored the stone throwing.

At one point, he says one of the children came over and began filming him.

"Right in front of my face, he was taking a Snapchat video and calling me a pedophile. Again, it took everything in me not to react."

And then he said the group turned their attention to Halcrow.

"I think it was just one kid that started it — tried to throw a punch. I'm not really sure what happened. The lady was trying to defend and before you knew it, she was on the floor," he said.

"She was on the floor and that was it. She lost her glasses; she couldn't see."

Again, a hard choice.

"I'm thinking in my head, should I go there? Because I know, if I hit one of those children … I'm thinking about my status here in Canada," the man said.

"It took everything in me not to react when that lady was being beaten. I was so angry, I was at the point I was going to do something."

The man decided that the best thing he could do was to record the assault.

The attack was over in less than a minute. The man recalls Halcrow's daughter crying, and the woman trying to find her glasses.

After she left, he said the group of kids again approached him and accused him of calling 911, demanding to see his phone and its call log.

"I showed them my call log," he said. "That's how I got out of there."
Going public

The man went to work and, the next morning, instead of going to bed he decided to go public with the video of the attack.

"I wanted the public to know about it," he said.

"I've seen this firsthand. These kids harassed me. If I didn't do this, no one would have known about it."

Halcrow came out of the assault with bruises to her arms, legs and back. She reported the assault to police, and they say they're investigating.

Police confirm that they are also looking into reports of similar assaults in Pleasant Hill Park.

kids can do some pretty fucked up things
"at least" there were no bystanders on the London bus who stood by and watched rather than stepping in
