I guess I just don't like the idea of a pope in the first place... some filthy rich guy who's the head of the most corrupt religion in history who lives in decadence while poor people starve all around him and somehow he's supposed to be closer to god than anyone else and revered for his 'holiness' even though they just end up picking a new pope anyway.. from the street if they have to. And all these people come flocking to him like he's the holy messiah and what does he do for them? That's what I thought.. I guess what I'm saying is fuck the pope.

Karol J?zef Wojtyla was not "filthy rich" - he came from a poor background whose country was invaded by the Nazis. As the Pope, he was not "filthy rich" either - filthy rich means massive consumption and decadence and luxury - do you really think the Pope lived like Paris Hilton? Yes, the Church has money that is donated to them - most of the money is spent teaching students at the Seminaries or maintaining the structure that is the global Catholic church.

And I do hope you realize that the Vatican/Catholic Church do help poor people in 3rd world nations. But why do you expect them to "save" everyone? How is that even possible? How have you helped those who are hungry?

Why do you believe the Pope "was closer to God"? What exactly does that mean? The Pope was an authority figure for religious disputes and doctrine. He was the head of the Church - not some Jesus incarnate.

What I am getting at is who the fuck are you? You preach "revolution" and a "new age" and all that - but when it gets down to it, you're full of hatred just like some maladjusted teenager . You should have love in your heart...even if you disagree with the Church. I cannot take your rhetoric seriously if hatred is the end result of your practice and beliefs.

Love your enemies.
hate perpetuates hate
love perpetuates love.

I hear you. I was brought up Catholic but am far from devout. Most devout Catholics wouldnt take the time to read this post or make them upset at all. They would laugh it off and go on.. It's funny to see you all sit here and rant and rave. The pope was a human being and had a soul. Have some respect for that if nothing else.

Theres no need to be Catholic to defend a man worthy of the defense. I mean, I'm muslim myself.

I wasn't trying to imply that. Shroomism took a shot at Catholics I was responding to him. I was merely stating that in the Catholic religion you are tought to have sympathy and respect for people of all religions no matter what it may be.

I agree with you. It all comes down to the individual whether they will have compassion for a fellow human being or not no matter the religion. As there are many very good muslim peoples and there are the handful of evil ones.

Hmm did I strike a nerve?

Yes, I respond to hatred.

Quote:
I have plenty of love in my heart..

...but yet you curse someone to death whom you've never met nor know little about?

Quote:
Have I helped anyone who was hungry? You bet your ass I have, and I'm poor, and usually hungry myself.

Who? So you helped save people who were on the brink of starvation..? Do tell.

Quote:
But I hope you do realize that there is enough food on Earth to feed everyone, but everyone is not being fed

Perhaps that is true, but why is this the fault of the Pope?

Quote:
My dissent comes from the fact that most catholics revere the pope like he is god himself, and the whole of Catholicism works under the principle that the church is the "middle man" between the average joe and god.

Catholics do not "revere the Pope like is god himself" - this is not true. Catholics do believe he is [was] holy - a trait that is acquired to devoted your entire being to the faith. You obviously have never spent much time in a Catholic church...

The Church is the middleman between the individual and God? Why do you believe this? How is the Catholic Church any different from other Churches in this regard?

Quote:
I never saw much love under a catholic doctrine.. I saw a lot of misogyny, holier-than-thou ism, repressed sexuality, fear and bigotry.

Yes, these are characteristics of humans - around the globe and of all faiths. You sure seem "holier-than-thou" and full of hatred - how are you any better my friend?

Quote:
I only made this post because I was puzzled why so many people were so distressed that the pope died.

I am not distressed about his passing, I am simply curious why you are so full of hatred all the while preaching your "revolution" and "new age."

general reply:

he was a good soul

he had a positive effect on the world. and i honestly believe he accelerated the fall of the iron curtain

regardless if you like the media coverage or not (which he had nothing to do with) we should give him proper respect imo. he wasn't afraid to die, since he refused to goto the hospital in the end and choose to let the powers that be take their course

Personally, I didn't care when the pope was alive. He's just a man like any other man to me, and he died like everyone else will die. The pope had no special powers, no divine gift, nothing to distinguish him from anyone else besides his funny hat and his human-voted title.

He should've died earlier anyway, why drag on into your 80s with such bad health? I wish the pope would've followed Thompson's lead.

but do you seriously think the pope doesn't spend the church's money on fancy living? you think he lives like all the other pleebs? come on now.. that's why they cart him around in a bulletproof glass structure right.

When the Pope died, he had no possesions. Everything he used was borrowed from the Church. He willed it away to whomever they saw fit. He has a bullet proof structure because he was shot in the chest. he didn't have one before that.... maybe you didn't know that...or are you just spewing bias?
