so utterly disapointed
    #25989328 -

went out of town for 5 days and when I left this tub was pinning, came back to this

Had two tubs behind this one that were almost fully colonized and they looked like this

Had a bunch of shoeboxes on second flushes that were just pinning. They were all extremely overgrown, black caps, all curled up.....

Most of them had spotches of Trich....

Idk wtf is going on, what I did wrong, everything looked fine when I left ...

What do you think was the cause of the Trich..?

I have had lots and lots of Trich lately....

I recently moved and I have been having lots of issues with recurring trich...

Any thoughts? Suggestions?
I moved everything out of my grow area... Washing everything with soap and water then plan to wipe with isopropyl alcohol before re-use.

Sprayed the shit out of the area with Lysol...

not sure what else to do or how to prevent this..?

I know the spawn was all clean. Maybe the tubs were too moist ?

I also added some coffee grinds and gypsum.

Never had issue with coffee grinds before but maybe that was the cause...?

So devastated...  :undecided:   :cryariver:  :hissyfit:  :frown:

Are those fruits on the trich tub fine to dry and eat..?

yeah hopefully.

This trich is recurring though and popping up all over so I really don't get what is going on or why its happening or how to prevent it :/

I dont know. Everything I have read claims that if trich takes over first flush then it was the spawn. Unfortunately I am in the same boat. Things look great on all my boxes right till they pin then I got a 50/50 shot on them triching out. Im now working with a flowhood and started back at spores/new clones so I hope that helps. That culture looks like a beast tho I would have a hard time letting it go. Good luck.  Hope we get sorted out.

Could your sub be too wet. I went through that issue, now I short change the water for my bricks...

Yeah it definitely could be too wet. Especially because I left and I think there was way too much presicipation when I got back. I would have normally upped the FAE if I noticed it but maybe my neglect helped cause the outbreak...?

The coffee grounds could be part of the problem if your not properly pasturizing it. I don’t think you can just bucket Tek it like you do with coir.

It's a possibility. I've done bootboxes that have been too wet, crack a lid, and a week later, breaks out. I've learned to do 2q water:1 brick/1q verm...

Did you test that on agar? Maybe it was already contaminated way early on.. What's your bulk substrate tek, bucket coir? Ah, coffee grounds and gypsum... You could try without either of those or one.

If all else fails, try a different tub, or you could try to skip bulk and fruit from grain jars directly.

Sure as hell won't be fruiting jars. Definitely going to be bulk one way or another

Im thinking about going back to shoeboxes for a while and skipping the monos for a bit. I've never had a tub break out in trich like this. I think maybe it has to do with me not being there to keep an eye on conditions...? I've been having real bad luck with trich lately. Like every tub has it by the second flush and some have been getting it on the first flush. Could spores be all over my grow area or more likely its from the spawn or sub?

I did agar to grain then have been doing g2g for a while from those. been a few generations. I have like 28 jars now that are all almost colonized, maybe my next set I'll start a new agar batch to use as masters.

Idk, the jars looked and smelled super clean to me. Broke up real easy and nicely...

Yeah I do bucket tek, boiling water on coir in a cooler overnight.

I haven't used coffee or gypsum in a long time but was hoping it would help with yield and have used both successfully in the past without contam issues.

Wish I knew what the cause was. I might go back to pure coir and verm and try a bit on the dry side and see how that goes i suppose ? Hoping its not my area that is just contaming with trich from the air or something..? idk

Sounds good, grain to agar or restart from agar and use only coir or something else. Maybe shoeboxes like you said.

It's definitely the coffee grounds. They are too nutritious for molds and bacteria even after pasturizing. If you want to add them in brew a cup of coffee and add them to your grains as they are soaking. Careful on adding too much as that can change the pH of your grains and then the mycelium won't be able to colonize properly.

i agree it's the coffee , i would skip the coffee and do everything the same and evaluate results ,

pasteurized coffee turned green so fast every time for me , like it's mentioned too nutritious to wait for mycelium

also , give the tubs some fae while colonizing , trich loves stuck stagnant air , not much fae , but some.

Try damions elementary coir tek to the T. 1 brick 2 quarts of verm and 4 quarts of water. It comes out looking almost too dry.

Yeah I left for 5 days, i leave the lid mostly on during colonization and shoeboxes work fine without touching the lid so figured the unmodified tub would be similar, usualyl im here to check conditions. I really expected to come back to a decent tub and then two more tubs full of decent pins... fuck me...

I had quite a few tubs go trich that  I didn't add coffee or gypsum to too though, these last few weeks or so

I usually do 1 brick coir, 4qt water, and like 3qt verm, I start with two and usually end up adding more verm cause its still wet. i'll probably try going even dryer than I have been, i've been prepping more coir at a time to, doing like 2 bricks at a time or so, maybe that's fucking me up...? these tubs did seem wet when i spawned now that I think about it.

Maybe a combination of wet, coffee, very high humidity with low FAE...

Thanks guys

I'll try to clean up my spawn by starting with new agar, try to clean up my sub by eliminating additives and going straight verm and coir, and try to keep my sub on the dry side, and see how all that goes.

Idk why trich keeps appearing in my tubs... But hopefully this all solves it for me and I can get back on track..  :cryariver:

Its hard to tell if something is 100% clean. But if it contams before first flush finishes, then it was your spawn.

This is my current spawn, one jar from each batch of 7, going to spawn 7 tomorrow, just shook the other 21

These are my old jars that I spawned and triched out

These are jars I did with shoeboxes and no coir or gypsum, 1 had trich, the others all had trich second flush. if anything these seemed dirty to me

This was the result though

Idk.

Maybe its spawn.

Maybe its over wet sub.

Maybe a combination of all these things, including coffee grind and gypsum.
