yes, the humidity would suffer due to your "air exchange".

it would suffer so much!

It would probably be a much better idea to put it on a timer so it would turn on very briefly (15 minutes or so?) per day. I don't forsee any problems that way. Just this new grower's opinnion though so take it with a grain of salt, goodluck!!

The pupose of the air pump is for air exchange-nothing else.My pump has two outlets for hoses and I use both of them with the bar type air stones. It wont effect the humidity!(not enough to matter)
Thats why we use these air pumps-to exchange air, nothing else.

have u thought about tossing a cool mist in ?
Air exchange and humidity.
Can't ask 4 much more.

If you deside to try it hit ebay up first.
I bought my first cool mist @ k-mart
Cost me 35.00 or around that.

Got on ebay the otherday looking for a couple more cool mists and picked up two of them both cost less than the first one I bought

1 cost 10.00 shipped the other cost 6.95 shipped

It does a little but not enough to matter.
If you only used these airstones for humidity and nothing else you would end up with a very low humidity and alot of air exchange.

Humidity is made by the use of perlite and water(or a humidifier),not air being pumped through the water.
To create humidity the water has to evaporate into the air, pumping air through water does not cause it to evaporate enough to maintain a constant high humidity environment.
The humidity you are speaking of is being made by your cakes or casings evaporating what moisture they contain(if you are not using anything for humidity, perlite etc, etc).
You use perlite or a humidifier to raise the humidity so that your cakes or casings will not evaporate what moisture they contain and so they wont dry out-you need this moisture for them to grow since they(mushrooms) are 90% moisture anyway.

Well, i dont spray my containers, the pearlite and air pumps work great

Also i think it raises humidity more than you think...the purpose of air stones in aquariums is to replenish dissolved oxygen...the air stone help because it makes small bublles, so there is more surface area for oxygen to dissolve...how does this relate to the humidity in the air?  just as oxygen is dissolved in the water, water too must get "dissolved"/vaporized into the air bubbles...so with high surface area of bubbles, you get a higher concetration of water vapor in the air

that has always worked for me, i usually just spray the container when i place the casing in and let the air stones do the rest.

Doc34 has got it!!!!! I just got my dual output air pump set-up and it made almost no difference in the humidity of my 97 qt rubbermaid tank. I just spliced both lines together for one high output airstone. I am thinking about splitting the lines back to two and putting a bar type airstone at each end of my tank.

Here is a link of the air pump setup that I have........

Hope this helps!
