Find me an argument against altruism, emotional communion, peace and love.

Benevolent dictatorship FTW.

I'm not against altruism, peace or love. I'm saying it's impossible to create or foster any of those things by operation of  law. Benevolent dictatorships work with pets and children... not grown humans.

Outsmart the law and the establishment and convince the masses and you're set. It's very difficult.

Why do you think evil dictators get to power and not the benevolent kind?

Benevolence requires cooperation. Evil can be enforced with violence. Human cooperation is limited, particularly as populations increase

Common Sense by Thomas Paine - Of Monarchy and Hereditary Succession

here's a section of a short and quite famous pamphlet.  If you haven't read it before, I recommend reading the entire thing. (it's a short read)

Did you post that on your smartphone while sitting in your BMW?

Yes actually

But I think the fact I don’t directly deal with poverty makes it an all the more admirable position to hold.

Plus my bmw is like 10 years old

There will be a Federal election here in 2 weeks time.
The ABC has a nifty online questionnaire to help work out which political party most closely represents your views on key issues.

I found out I wasn't as Green as I thought I was and am basically still a Labour voter... which is useful to understand, as I was undecided on whether to vote Labour or Green.
Actually, it appears I may be turning Right Wing!  Man this 'getting older' business sucks.

There are quite a few Aus-specific questions but other interesting immigration and social issue questions as well. Give it a try

Don't trust a poll by the establishment media.  They will try and get you to think that you are more establishment than you really are.

I also took the questionnaire, and like you, it told me I'm not nearly as green as I know I am.  Here's why:

I strongly support a very high minimum wage, for example, as does the Green Party.

I know that Australia already has the highest minimum wage in the world, so for the question "How high should the minimum wage be?" my answer was "neutral" rather than "Much higher".  But to be counted as green, you had to answer "Much higher".

It's not a good poll.

Don't get tricked - vote Green!

--------------------
I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

The poll's questions change each time you open the page. I thought it was interesting however I get what you're saying Falcon.

The wages question was slightly loaded as wages growth has stalled here, as well the
unemployment benefit has not risen for over 20 years.

The minor parties have changed the political landscape here and often end up with the balance of power.
If it wasn't for the Greens negotiating with Labour our Renewable Energy sector would still be languishing.

I'm a swinging voter and I think my measly vote does count.
