is it diabetes or a mental food disorder? please help
    #25880461 -

Im pretty sure I have some sort of food disorder going on. Food is affecting my mood way more than it should, if I don't eat I pretty much feel like I am going to die. The time of day seems to have a huge effect on it as well; breakfast has little to no effect on my mood, lunch gives me an ungodly amount of anxiety, and dinner leaves me feeling like I just did a shot of heroin.

also after eating I sometimes get very internally cold and start shivering.

another symptom is getting angry while eating, not necessarily outward anger but I start getting a huge rush when I eat sometimes and think angry thoughts.

I have always had a fast metabolism and have always ate all the time. I could literally eat all day if I wanted Im always hungry and thirsty.

I have been pissing about 7 to 12 times a day.

Again this is all more than just normal hunger/eating habits/effect on mood, I can tell somethings going on. I just don't know if its in my head or real.

Might be sensitive to insulin. Have you ever tried one of those at home blood glucose meters?

Pissing that much is called polyuria. It is a symptom of diabetes type 2 and other things. If you are food sensitive and pissing  frequently you should go to see a doc and have your blood sugar tested. Hopefully you just get “hangry”. I know I do and I am not diabetic. Don’t delay or mess around with the possibility of having diabetes. If you do have DM2 (diabetes type 2) and it’s starting to get worse you could easily end up in a state called diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).

That would certainly land you in the emergency if not an ICU. I don’t want to scare you but it’s much easier to get you blood checked with a tiny prick to your finger then end up on an insulin drip in the hospital over night... much cheaper too.

If you do have DM2 - it could be as simple as a diet modification or taking a pill once a day.

Best of luck. If you have any other questions I’ll monitor this thread.

You should probably go see a doctor if this has been going on for more than a day or two, and you should definitely go if this has been getting worse. I'm not sure what's going on, but this does not sound like Type II DM to me. Diabetes usually has a slow onset. You need somebody to do a real workup on you so they can rule some stuff out. A doctor should take a better history than what you gave us, and you're probably going to need more lab work than a blood glucose check or two. If this has started over a couple of days, then it could be a warning sign of something serious, particularly if you're not a kid.

Feeling cold after eating along with the extra peeing (assuming you're peeing out a good bit when you go) is sort of concerning. When you eat, you get some vasodilation around your guts and stomach, and that can take some blood away from your extremities and other parts of your body. In a healthy body it's no big deal, but it almost sounds like you might going into a little bit of shock when you eat, and that is troubling. Lots of stuff could cause that, and I couldn't begin to try to guess what it could be without some more background. Again, You should go see a doctor.

Just for the sake of dicking around though:

How long has this been going on, and does it happen every day and at every meal?

has anything else been happening concurrently with what you described above?

what are you eating and when are you eating it?

What other medical conditions do you have?

How often do you see a doctor?

How old are you and how much do you weigh?

Could you explain what the shot of heroine thing feels like in other words? (head rush, tired, euphoric, instantly nodding off, etc.?)

Do you have any idea what your normal pulse rate and blood pressure are? And check your pulse rate and BP in the morning, and then do it before eating and after eating, particularly when you're feeling the weird symptoms. It would be a good idea to do the same thing with a blood glucometer (should be around $40 at walmart for the meter and strips).

It's probably worth checking your temperature to see if you have a fever or anything, too. I wouldn't be surprised if you had some type of infection.

FYI - every symptom he listed is associated with diabetes.

Infections don’t revolve around or present with meals nor do they correlate with cyclic mood changes..

Hey OP - you got any details?

been going on for a while but seems to be worse the last few months

has anything else been happening concurrently with what you described above?
just general fatigue and feeling like shit really, I thought at first it could be a hormonal imbalance although I don't know why that would be

what are you eating and when are you eating it?
if I eat breakfast I eat a granola bar or toast, maybe bacon and eggs. Lunch is usually either jimmy johns or a Mexican restaurant, dinner can be anything I like chicken/rice kind of meals, salmon mashed potatoes, burgers things like that. I used to drink a TON of soda, this year I have been trying to cut down and not I probably have 2 or 3 a week.

What other medical conditions do you have?
none as far as I know

How often do you see a doctor?
I haven't seen a doctor in about 6 years

How old are you and how much do you weigh?
im in my late 20s and weigh about 150 5'10

Could you explain what the shot of heroine thing feels like in other words? (head rush, tired, euphoric, instantly nodding off, etc.?)
Basically I just mean that after I eat dinner I feel really fuckin good. Its the only time throughout the day that I actually feel truly connected to reality and like myself. I have some psychological issues tho, true OCD, probably borderline personality things like that. the feeling only lasts about 20 minutes but it truly is the high point of my day. And its not because im mentally addicted to food, don't get me wrong I like to eat but it feels like a more physical effect. im not sure.

ive always had low blood pressure I know that, but lately my pulse has been up and sometimes I can feel it getting rapid for no reason although its probalby anxiety related. I bought the glucometer and this was only about 4 hours after eating a meal, and had some candy about 2 hours before and it read 96, so I guess thats normal? maybe I should wait longer

Go to the dr and get checked first,  even if just for peace of mind on the medical front.

Sounds like your chakra is out of whack...

jk, I heard that doctors would taste pee and if it tasted sweet then that would be pretty conclusive of diabetes.

Just saying...hope you get to the bottom of things, maybe check out webmd.

That test would be useless now. Most artificial sweeteners cause the urine to taste sweet.

OP should find someone with a glucose meter or get one at Walmart for $10.

Test yourself before eating and right after eating. Test after you get up in the morning. Get a sugary soda and test before drinking it and 15 minutes after. If your levels are not changing much and read around 100 then you’re definitely not even close to having diabetes. My dad had diabetes and his readings were all over the map and rarely would they be normal. 96 is a profoundly normal reading.

Byw, thinking about food can cause a release of insulin, similar to how such anticipation can cause an increase in salivation. If you’re thinking about food and not eating, that extra insulin can make you hypoglycemic.

Studies show that people who have a strong insulin anticipatory response are at higher risk of developing diabetes. It’s literally unhealthy to be thinking about food all day long.
