I have a Toshiba Tecra 500 CDT lying around here from work. It has basically the same problem, except more extreme. Many keys don't work and the ones that do give out a string of characters. I know that the cause was repeated exposure to water. Let me know if you ever get it fixed.

i am currently using a toshiba 225cds sattelit pro. i have had similar keyoard problems. what i did was remove the little piece of platic at the top of the keyboard that holds it in place. before this, my letter K would type 2 k's my backspace didnt work, and the number keys didnt work, now all of it is fixed except i hve to hold the over key while hitting the down key in order for it to work. so try removing the little plastic piece at the top.
