Do you have anything hooked up as "slave" to another?

Just a thought.

did you call adaptec ? Their live tech support is pretty good, and last time i checked it was free.

I'm no scsi guru, and don't want to be, but I have a couple ideas to check.

Do you have the latest ASPI layer (drivers) downloaded and installed? CD burners seem to be real critical of the ASPI layer. Weird thing is that IDE burners require the ASPI layer too.

Do you have several different burning Programs installed? In particular Adaptec's
EZ-CD doesn't like to co-exist installed on the same disk with other burner programs (NERO esp). It makes a difference what order they are installed. My fix was to ditch EZ-CD since it causes the problems and I think it is lame anyway.

Have you checked system resources to make sure you don't have an IRQ conflict? Cheap scsi cards are notorious for requiring a bunch of IRQ fiddling to co-exist with other cards, particularly sound cards and voice-modems.

Other than that, dunno.

What order are your scsi devices in? I dunno how true it is, but I heard before that it matters in what order the scsi ids go with some older cards...the best situation is to do it like so:

|(terminator)0-1-2-3-4-5-6-7(scsi card)-8-9-10-11-12-13-14-15(terminator)|

So if you don't have any external scsi stuff, 7 would be terminated, and all the internal components would start at 8 and go up from there, obviously the highest number being terminated. 8 would be on the connector closest to the card, etc. Also, is everything that you're running on 68 pin?

prophet, scsi doesn't do master/slave, they do individual ID's, 0-7, or 0-15 for wide scsi.

cheshire, good call, i'll try that, thanks

dr. dung, haven't tried the latest drivers, i'll check that out. the only burnign program i have installed is ez-cd creator, but i'll uninstall it and try another. no irq conflicts. thank you, too

S Club Bobo, i've never heard that before, but i'll try that, too, if nothing else works. it's a narrow card, so only have id's 0-7. everything's narrow, except the hard drive has a sca connection, that might be causing a problem there. i might be able to get ahold of a narrow drive and see if that works. thanks

i'll let you guys know what happens. if anyone has any more idea's, i'd appreciate it.
