Re: Agar culture question [Re: juniperus]

That’s ok, they’re more for a rainy day/safekeeping genetics. I have the live transfers to work with for the time being. The spores are kind of old, about a month give or take, I don’t store in the fridge which is mainly why I wanted to put some more solution to use before it’s not viable, plus I have so much it just seems like a waste to leave the other guys out of the party

But ye, I think I have a better handle on all this now. When I made the transfers some were sticking to the blade again and I learned my lesson if they didn’t drop off then I tossed them and got a new piece resterilized etc, no finger this time :willynilly:

Here's a good thread for agar questions and information... spore prints will stay viable for years if kept cool, dark and dry... it's suggested to cold store syringes due to bacteria development

The maz spore syringe I used in Jan was from 2017, I didnt have time to cultivate again so I kept them in a box under my desk in my room. They worked fine when I inoculated.

I definitely want to make some prints later, but first I need mushrooms haha. I’ve heard different things with the syringes, I’ll just try to use up what I can as the fridge isn’t an option atm. Thanks for sharing that thread, any extra info to soak in helps a lot

All my jars are taking like this one here. I don’t see any contams yet, but who knows. I may just use these and try to get some mush from it? Or is it really a waste of resources?

Looks good so far.  Bacteria works fast and smells like shit.  Don’t spawn shitty jars.  Get some fruits and clone from there my dude.

Bacteria doesn't always smell... that shit can be sneaky... but the grain looks dry, so I doubt bacteria... what are you concerned about exactly? Like, has it stalled? I'm confused

If you read earlier when I put the agar wedges in the jars I made a noob error and used a gloved finger to push them in. It was pretty quick, but still. People were saying it could look fine but fruit badly or contam quickly in bulk substrate. Idk tho, if I can just get some clone candidates and a lil trip supply from it I’d be happy. And then proceed to phase 2. But I definitely don’t want to waste nothin

They were nocced on 2/25 well 2/24 around midnight, whatever you wanna call it.

Looks good to me so far! If the mycelium starts to look very thick, (usually more evident near full colonization IME) like ice cream, or is really hard to break up, that may indicate bacterial problems. Even still, you could spawn it to a shoebox. Plenty of people (myself included) have gotten fruit from bacterial spawn, usually just that the yields are sub-optimal.

That’s dope. I ordered bags of hpoo from outgrow, I think I have 5-1lb bags, and 2-1lb bags of casing. I’ll definitely use that for the pans, but the PE and Chitwan May just whip up some coir and verm, no need to waste good horse shit on bacterial spawn.

Quick question. I just prepped 6 new quart jars of rye, but it’s late and I need to get up tomorrow. Is it the worst thing to just sterilize tomorrow? They are currently sitting in their jars waiting for the pc. I just don’t have time tonight.

Btw I have updates coming from the jars and agar. Good stuff on the way!
