If that doesn't make sense to you, then you know how I feel.

Also, is it surprising that Tel-aviv, Manhatten, and Los Angeles are so welcoming and accepting of LGBTQ? What other demographic dominates those areas?

In a weird way, being overly accepting of new technologies (medical tech. in this case) is a simultaneous rejection of the old. Only out of chaos can the new world order effectively take rule!

I don't understand why people make it such an ordeal. Some people walk their dogs in the morning, and some people decide to cut off their genitals. Whatever makes ya happy.

despite being younger than me, and not being trans herself, she is a woman who is amazingly supportive and insightful to engage with with regards to trans matters
and has helped me keep my head when previous tranny threads went haywire

so it alleviates one of the primary symptoms causing daily discomfort
but is not sufficient on its own in dealing with the psychological baggage and discrimination that one experiences with being trans
and people who already had a higher rate of suicide than the general population continue to have a higher rate of suicide than the general population after surgical intervention

not enormously surprising really :shrug:

well, that's essentially the point i was trying to make. gender reassignment surgery doesn't appear to have any psychological benefits.

But that is not what your link says, the conclusions express that it has a clear psychological benefit:

just the matter that that single benefit is not on its own sufficient to counteract years/decades of depression associated with the dysphoria

recognizing that transitional surgery does not solve everything instantly is not the same thing as it having no psychological benefit
psychiatric wellness is an uphill battle; similarly none of my therapists would consider my using anti-depressants to be sufficient on its own to void the need for talk therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy
if anything -- anti-depressants are seen as a method to employ to make things like talk therapy and CBT more effective
and that has been true of my treatment going back to before even being aware transpeople exist
