Rye grain spawn
    #25854949 -

About 6 months ago I attempted making my first batch of grain spawn jars, after months of compiling information from various sources, mainly the shroomery itself. I won’t go into detail of my exact procedure I took because I am fairly certain my issue lays with the spore prints I collected from last years mushroom season. Nevertheless my grain spawn jars started showing signs of contamination about 3 days into the consolidation period. I left them for a further week, praying for a turn around, but to no such luck for they had contracted the yummy green fuzzes. I pressure cooked my contaminated jars hoping to kill the contams, I then tossed the jars in the corner of my garden. I never got around to properly disposing the contents and just left them sitting there. I obviously didn’t pressure cook the contaminated jars thoroughly enough because yesterday I noticed what had been dark green is now 50% white.
So my question is, has anyone else had a similar encounter of this nature and do you think if I leave my jars the mycelium will eventually take over the entire jar?

Contaminants also have white mycelium the spores are colored.

Unless your jar is 100% clean its fucked. A jar that "comes back" is still fucked

Mycelium can grow over contamination but the contamination will always be there.

You definitely gotta clean up those cultures on agar mang 100%, and never PC a contaminated jar, that doesn't even make any sense to me.

You toss that shit immediately at the first sign of contamination. There's no "turn around"

Don't be lazy and "not get around to disposing the contents" because your gonna risk getting millions of trich spores in your whole house and growing environment, which is a battle you don't wanna fight

Things that make you go "lol wut"

 clean up your cultures with some agar work (don't be intimidated it's not so bad) and follow RR's videos for your grain prep and such, you'll be arright  happy shrooming

Okay I will definitely be moving onto agar now! I read you should pressure cook contaminated jars before disposing to kill the contaminants. Thank you for your time!

It's not really necessary. U can pc jars to kill the mold spores, but it's gonna need 90 minutes minimum. Or u can just open them outside and dump them without pcing

Nahh you don't need to do that. I just take em straight to a couple cinched up walmart bags, and straight into the bins outside for trash pickup. If I wanted to be cheap about jars I'd take em down to the river, or bring a five gallon bucket of water way up back and open them under water so the green spores don't go airborne, clean em decent, then bring em back to the house and clean em good. But from where I'm sitting jars are so cheap, I just toss 'em.

U toss them with trich in them? Why? There's trich spores everywhere already. Bacterial jars and trich jars can be reused with no problem. Black mold and other crazy colors I won't fuck with tho. But if u have any house plants, u already got mad trich in ur house

Well I toss them if they are green as fuck. It happens so rarely, they're only a buck a piece if that, why bother with em.
