When grafting seedlings, ime, its important to use a sharp knife, make a clean cut and slide the scion onto the stock smoothly. Then following what ever procedure, forget about it for 10 days at least. Even then don't touch it. You won't know if its taken till it starts growing.

My first few grafting attempts, I would come back to check out my work, and inevitably I would knock it off or crush it, or something.

Now I like to do a whole tray of grafts at a time, in a humidity dome ( the type they sell for starting seeds). I won't check on them for 2 weeks. If they fail in that time, there was nothing I could of done, but at least I'm not messing up my own work.

I've never used tape, although I know some use cling wrap. I just put them in a humidity chamber till they've joined.

Yeah, I was thinking it looked dead too but the base still looked lively. I circled the part I was looking at to better explain what I was referring too. So you don't tape it down at all? Will it stick with out tape? The only reason I attempted to graft this one was because I bumped it when it was in the dirt and it pulled it up and broke the root off. I will be trying it later down the road when they get bigger though. I don't expect this one to take or anything, I was just seeing if this one was viable still or it it was a lost cause. The blue circle is the dead part and the red is what I thought might still be alive. It looks so small I don't see how it could make it but the fact that it's still green and not shriveled is what got me excited.
