Hello,
I have a few questions from a friend who is writing a novel, but does not have access to the internet. Here are the questions my friend wanted me to ask.
In the novel the protagonist wants to acquire seeds (and/or plants) (specifically Lophophora williamsii) for cultivation in the US for a personal ethnobotanical garden. I have read the FAQ's, and every related thread in this form on the topic (and looked in other forums) and have found some bits of information that were helpful to my friend, and others that sounded true but when checked out with other resources proved to be false (example one person said it was legal to have LW seeds in the US, when the law states that it is illegal to own any part of the cactus including seeds, not considering NAC exemptions). I have done multiple searches on various topics on the internet. So the research questions for the novel are: How specifically would a person go about acquiring seeds or plants for cultivation in the US? Does anyone know about the laws for purchasing, mail ordering, shipping, and possession of seeds in the US, does anyone (read company) ship seeds to the US, does any company specifically not ship seeds to the US? If seeds were shipped to a US address what are the chances of someone discovering them, is mail searched or scanned when it comes into the US from a foreign country (are letters and packages treated separately?), is mail irradiated or X-rayed on a regular basis if coming from a foreign country? What are techniques of minimizing discovery of seeds if shipped from a foreign country? What are the chances of a live plant being discovered if shipped to a US address? What are techniques of minimizing discovery of a live plant if shipped from a foreign country? Does anyone know the laws about possession of, LW seeds, and plants in Germany? Any creative ideas about methodology (please don't guess about the law, its best to know that exactly) would be welcomed so we could kick the tires. Also my searches, though extensive, were not exhaustive any up to date information or resources you might point me towards would be welcomed. My friend and I thank you very much for all your time, help, and effort.
Sincerely,
Reite

I have to ask why you want Peyote specifically when you can buy other large mature psychoactive cacti in the U.S. legally. Heck, I know someone who sells 4ft cuttings that would start your cactus garden off well.
Not least to mention how long Peyote can take to grow. 20 years for a 3" button is a LONG time. Unless you're into this for spiritual reasons...
To answer your question, it is illegal to import Peyote seeds into the U.S. Unless you happen to be a member of the N.A.C., in which case you're Federally exempt.
I also know of international seed suppliers who won't ship to the U.S. under any circumstances. There is a remote possibility that instead of dealing with angry Customs agents, you could end up dealing with Nazi DEA agents because it's technically a Schedule I substance (the law is grey on the seeds; there's arguments either way as to whether or not the seeds can be considered mescaline carriers, even though they don't contain mescaline themselves!).

If you want peyote so that you can eat it, you better look for some san pedro. It is hard to find somone that will ship you a peyote in the us. If you want peyote because its a beautiful cacti, the seeds arent that hard to get. It would probly be a few years before you could recognize it as peyote.

there are some euro and aussie vendors who might ship to USSA customers.. and somewho will not.... if one was to place an order, with one who will, it might be prudent to order seed of several other species offered as well (ain't nobody here but us chickens...) -- some other Loph species are legal to grow (L diffusa, L friciii ??) good luck with your novel, let us know how it ends...

Keep bearing in mind that Peyote (sub. mescaline) are Schedule I in the U.S. of A.
That is very significant. Technically, that means that the HOME you use to grow PEYOTE can be take away from you if you're caught. Being caught is not a huge probability, but please be aware of the risks involved. Unless you're N.A.C.
Grow San Pedro or Peruvian Torch instead. They're just as cute, fast growing, and psychoactive.
