is the point here to point out common names suck?  how many species are associated with the word "apple" or "bean"....lots...  every language has its own nae for various species, including indian languages....peyote, being used in english, seems to refer to LW, perhaps LD....i don't *think* it is used to describe other species in english...but in some native american/mexican language there may be one word (that peyote was translated from)that describes a few species.

in chinese there are many different names for the various lophophora types (non of which have any meaning of medicine or drugs).  so to call them all one name, like peyote, in chinese is also quite strange....common names, no matter the language or region, seems rather loose....latin names are what all languages can try and fall back on....but is the taxonomy of Lophophora really that good either? :nono:
