He is buying rotisserie chickens and eating a whole chicken everyday I guess. Seems like a lot unless these are small chickens?

What else do you eat OP?

Costco actually has the biggest whole chickens. I don't know where they get 'em, but they're almost twice as large as the ones at the grocery store. Actually, I once read they get them from Tyson, but apparently Costco's started investing in their own chicken farms so they can save even more money.

I really don't eat anything too exciting. My diet is very simple and basic. Chicken is my base. I have it at least 3-4 servings a day with ketchup and tabasco. I also eat microwave burgers that they sell at Costco. And I have a lot of golden delicious apples, not because they're my favorites. My favorite is Ambrosia apples, but golden delicious is the best tasting apple among the "budget apples" like Gala, Fuji, and Granny.

I also make green smoothies with spinach, kale, apples, lemon, and ginger.

For carbs, I usually have peanut butter sandwiches and Pop Tarts. I also drink a lot of coffee that I roast at home.

This is my diet everyday, holidays included. I never eat out.

What do you normally eat?

I eat out for like 75% of my meals. I would probably lose weight on your diet, because I’d get sick of eating the same thing constantly and would probably eat just enough to survive rather than stuffing my face with delicious take out from the various Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Mediterranean, Mexican, Indian, etc places in town. Not that I’m overweight, but I could lose 5-10 lbs. I’d probably save some money too.

Im thoroughly disappointed in you for not doing so.  Too perfect an opportunity to use that line.

I had a friend like you, dude had like a dozen half eaten rotisserie chickens in his fridge

dont get anxious and paranoid OP.

I work in a retail position and every one talks shit about customers who do shit like you are doing, not because it is actually annoying or a big deal, but because they are stuck in a fucking miserable place for 8+ hours a day and you happen to be the one abnormality for them to comment on and make their day interesting.  Take pride in it. buy more chicken.

I don't see why you would need to go there the day before you buy it either, just give them a custom order one time, and tell them you will be in to get the same thing every 10 days.

But yeah. I'm not surprised you are having such a shitty experience. Ohio is a fucking trash can. They have absolutely nothing going for them, fuck ohio.

I have a lot of experience in retail. Sometimes a coworker would make a remark about a customer, but it never turned into anything. You hear it and let it go out the other ear. Been there, done that. I honestly never took anything seriously when I worked in customer service. You obviously do the best you can with what you're given. There's no point in arguing with every customer and getting overheated about something so inconsequential.

But the other thing is, every retail shop I've worked at, made me the manager within a few months, and it's because I used my better judgment. The owners appreciate it when you exercise your common sense. I knew when to follow policy and when to improvise and cut losses. It's the necessary cost of doing business, and in fact, you'll end up saving more heartache, time and money by picking your battles wisely. And I made sure everybody on the staff knew this whenever they expressed frustration.

Gah, some people here like yourself have suggested filing a complaint directly to HQ, but honestly, I don't see how that's gonna help my situation, because of where I live. While the Costco in Los Angeles is a revolving door, not so in Cleveland. I see the same manager everytime I go there, I see the same guy who's in charge of the chicken, the same person who checks your Costco membership at the entrance, same person who marks your receipt, etc.

Considering I'm already a hot topic among the employees, I don't think I want to add fuel to the fire, by being the guy who got so-and-so in trouble, or God forbid someone loses their job over my complaint, and they're like, "OMG, Mary was a hard worker, and she's had this job for 15 years, and it's all she knows, and she's a single mother raising three kids, what will she do now?" etc etc.

It's awkward enough living in a small town, being paranoid, and then having my paranoia vindicated through a confrontation about buying an item that they're offering. Loss leader or not, they don't have limits, so I don't know why they're giving me a hard time.

Honestly, I feel like I have the reputation of the guy at the casino who's card counting, so there's a bulletin on me, like "watch out for this notorious cheater." Or the guy at the store who always eats their bananas and grapes and strawberries without paying for them and walking out.

Anyway, the last thing I wanna become is "that guy from Los Angeles who ruined Cleveland. Before his arrival, everything was perfect. Why did he have to come here? I wish we could click our heels and go back to how it used to be."

Dude, you *ARE* paranoid and that's why it's not OK. Fuck them. Their job is to make sure your shopping experience is wonderful and you get what you need.

If Mary the hard working mother of 3 gets fired, that's her own damn fault. A tough lesson to learn but SERIOUSLY. They are selling chicken, you are buying it. Fuck those lazy ass gossipy workers .

And fuck coming in the day before to put an order in. That's the biggest load of crap I've heard.

Seriously man if it's that big of a deal and is effecting your mental state because of it, you need to either do something about it, so not let it get to you, or stop shopping there.

I don't think I'd want the onus of having someone lose their job over me. I wouldn't feel any iota of relief from it. In fact, even from a strategic standpoint, it would be shortsighted. I'd win the battle, but lose the war.

Like I said, this is Cleveland. It's a small town. Of course, people here get offended when you call it that, because they believe it offers all the amenities of a major city, but yeah... I really don't see how I'd benefit from such a transaction.

There's a documentary of a city that's not too far away from Cleveland called Mentor, where school bullies drove some kids to suicide. The administration didn't do anything about it prior to parental complaints, nor after. They're not granting interviews, nor is anybody outraged and protesting outside the school. It's just not that kind of city where injustice needs to be accounted for.

Even the podcast Serial featured the Cleveland justice system this year, and it's notoriously inept and corrupt, but it's one of those towns, where the demographic is essentially conformist and powerless. You either go with the flow, or you draw attention, and if you draw attention, you become a target.

Moral of the story... if there's anything I've learned in all these years, you can never quite ignore your suspicions, doubts, instincts, etc, because of how frequently you're reminded it's not "all in your head," after all. These people are talking behind your back, and there is more than meets the eye.

The Costco in question is pretty nearby. It only takes me around 10 minutes to drive there. My other option would be BJ's, which is a couple miles further away. I don't know. I'm kind of a creature of habit. I guess we'll see.

Thanks for the support.

Haha, I wholeheartedly agree, and I wish we lived in a movie world where I can use an ingenious line like that, and the employee would crack up and say, "Good one! Psyche! I'm just kidding. You can buy all the chicken you need."

I think the biggest problem they have with people mass buying their stock is that they then have the all mighty Karen come bitch at the employees about not having X in stock

But honestly, who cares mate, let them judge you for being the chicken devourer. Honestly if they keep making remarks to you, you should make a shirt dedicated for costco shopping like "Chicken Slayer" or something. Dead serious.

I shop at Costco regularly and have never experienced anything but the best customer service.

I cant even imagine your scenario, but I know exactly how I would handle it.

"Excuse me for being frank, but I will buy as much, or as little, a product I'd like.  I'm getting tired of being harassed for buying product and spending money at your establishment.  Perhaps this is a sign you arent adequately stocking and supplying your store properly.  Should I contact HQ about this and sort it out above your head?  If not, fuck off"

Two things will happen.  They will fuck off or call your bluff.  If they choose to call your bluff, contact hq.  They are a bulk warehouse and they count on people buying in bulk.  They will make quick work of their bullshit.

Like I said in a prior post, I don't think contacting HQ is gonna resolve anything. This isn't so much a Costco problem, as it's a Cleveland problem.

I'm already a tabloid sensation at the location. They'd have to fly in management from out of state and do a complete overhaul from the ground up if they want any long lasting changes. This isn't isolated to a rogue employee on a power trip. It's systemic.

But also to consider, not everyone here agrees with your approach. This thread is pretty evenly split 50/50, so it's obviously not a simple, clearcut predicament. If anything, most of the comments are sympathizing with the Costco employees for putting up with a tough customer like me.

It should at the very least be possible to make the order by phone rather than physically coming in and putting a paper in a box. But maybe they are hoping to annoy him with that part.

I used to get boxes of coins from banks to search them. On a number of occasions they suggested I order them ahead of time, but there wasn't much they could to to make me.

You probably lived in a location with a revolving door of employees, who always saw you for the first time.

The employees at the Cleveland Costco will probably be getting their pension, so it's just a hassle everytime I have to see them. They make it unsettling for me with their piercing stares.

LoL - definitely sounds like a midwest issue. people there can be fucking weird. Yeah in SoCal i have found that clerks for the most part mind their own business. Costco does a few weird things for sure though - 1 is if you are not the exact person in the picture card theyre like, can you tell me where this person is...? Its my wife what the hell we have the same unheard of last name comeon

The other week when I was there i made the mistake of engaging with a costco membership salesperson while waiting in line, and she would not let up on me about the benefits of upgrading to the executive membership... I defaulted to the my wife makes all the decisions ill ask her response and she was like can you get her over here i need to talk to her

I have the Executive Membership, haha! I find that I buy enough to justify the membership cost, and you get a little cashback check at the end of the year. Also in LA, you can get in a half hour earlier than regular members. But of course, they don't offer this perk in Cleveland.

I never had problems with ID in LA. They don't care. People don't even bother to present their cards at the entrance. I always did, because I kind of found it disrespectful and demeaning to their importance. And of course, the employees in LA aren't gonna be argumentative and raise hell with every single person who does this. It's an exercise in futility.

But yeah, once the cashier in Cleveland looked at my card and was like, "You don't look like the person on the card."

I'm not the adventurous type. The people who take joy in the daily routine of going to the grocery store, are spontaneous with their grocery list.

Like I said, I stick to the same ingredients, so I don't wanna make more trips than necessary. It's just not efficient to do so, especially when it snows. Hosing down the salt encrusted wheels and hubcaps and bumper and everything is also not my favorite past time.

Plus, the more you go out, the more you increase your risk of getting into an accident. In my two years here, somebody hit my car while it was parked. I also hit a deer, which costed $500 deductible to get fixed.

First go in and buy like 2 chickens. Then go back to the car and put on a fake mustache, go in and by 2 more. Go back to the car and put on a moomoo, then shove a pillow up it and go in there with a walker and buy 2. Then go back to your car and put on a turban and a bed sheet and a fake beard and buy the last one. Seven chickens, no embarrassment, problem solved.

Goddamn, that's funny.

The people who work at the Cleveland Costco wouldn't get the message. But I'm sure in some other town, you can rock a shirt like that and get the last laugh.

The whole point of Costco is to buy stuff in bulk. Originally, the warehouse was conceived to cater to business owners, so it's ironic that I'm getting guilt tripped over buying too much chicken.

You aren't buying too much chicken. There is no such thing. You could buy 20 or 30 if you wanted to, unless of course they have a posted limit. Just get as much chicken as you want and let the manager worry about their rotisserie stock. If an employee says something then ask to talk to the manager, if it's the manager then go to the regional manager, and so on. Everybody has a boss there and the customer is always right.

If you want to be nice about it then tell the deli department manager that you will pick-up 7 chickens every Sunday so they can make them early and have them ready for you. It is their job to make you happy, not the other way around. Especially with a big corporation.

This doesn't make sense. The main feature of shopping at a place like Costco is buying in bulk. A lot of businesses stock up at Costco. Why would anybody there be surprised at someone buying in...you know, bulk.
