Sour Smelling incubation

So I spawned a colonized pf cake to a quart of sterilized pf substrate and it smells like sour milk. I don't see any visible contaminations though. Im suspecting its bacteria. Ive heard of stories where the mycelium will overtake the bacteria and fruit. Should I count on this or just toss it?

How did u spawn a cake to a quart of brf? Pics? It's definitely trash if it smells like that tho. U can't do g2g with pf cakes.

dont have pics but I put it in a ziploc bag with holes in it.

No chance of saving it if it smells like sour milk. Toss it and start over.

Yeah you shouldn’t use brf as your bulk substrate. Maybe try coir once you have some healthy cakes.

what i usually do is super spawn to pf and then spawn to bulk

So I turn a half pint of spawn to a quart. And then spawn each quart of spawn to a quart of coir. So 3 quarts of spawn to 3 quarts coir. Usually works fine

Also when spawning you want to pasteurize your bulk sub that you’re spawning to, you don’t want to sterilize bulk substrates.
