It's rarely mentioned but once you inoc, leave 'em alone on a shelf. Don't turn upside down to look as it disturbs the protective verm layer.
You'll be tempted to pick them up and look every day but it'll work best if you don't.

How are you going to use a tub with 2 6-8" holes in it for a mono?

Also, you should be leaving the dry verm to the brim, and the lid should compress it slightly, holding it in place... properly constructed, you can juggle them without issue

Ended up going with BRF cakes for the first go around. I am going to shred to bulk in shoeboxes though. 12 1/2 pint jars, I am thinking 4 per shoebox. Inoculation will be soon. Jars are already sterilized.

1 tub (use it as your SAB for grain inoculation before using it as your mono),

Don't cut holes in it. Hang the upside down tub over the edge of a table just enough to get your arms up into it. Put some books on top to keep from tipping it over accidentally. Works great in a pinch

Great idea, thanks. Spores should be here today at some point. Cakes are ready to go.

My very first time, I taped a sheet of plastic over the tub, cut two slits for arms then laid the tub on it's side to work. While the jars were colonizing I turned that tub into a SGFC.

Just buy 2 tubs for crying out loud: if you don't have $12 for an extra tote that you'll continue to use, you need a job, not a hobby lol

If you wanna go cheap,PF Tek and spawn to bulk in cheap shoeboxes.
No PC,agar,SAB/tubs required.
Cheap,and effective.:super:
No genetic control.
If you can't spend the money to buy a tub for a designated SAB,then how will you afford all the other tools, and supplies you'll need to go agar/grain?
Just keep it simple til you feel comfortable enough to step it up.

That sounds horribly awkward. If anything, make a cardboard SAB.

These are the TEKs I use. They're all as cheap and easy as possible, just like your mom.

I totally agree. Someone dipping their toes in might want to minimize their investment until they see results. Does not mean it's the best way to do it by a long shot.

Also agree. Although not about the cardboard SAB. That would require more time and effort for the same result. Again it works in a pinch if needed but not something I would ever recommend as standard practice.

This is exactly the ratio i used. Keep in mind though this will only work if you have 100% success rate with none of your jars getting contammed. If anything happens, youll have to compensate the ratio.
