This cake looking healthy?

I've got two cakes.. not sure which flush they're on. I think second. But anyway.. I was wondering if this color should be alarming. It doesn't look like the natural blue bruising or whatever. I gave it a smell.. and I guess it smells okay. Doesn't smell as fresh as when I first birthed it of course.. but doesn't seem to have an extreme foul smell either.

But was just wondering on your guys opinions.. because I do want to get rid or any cakes that may be a problem I just set it back in the HC two days ago.. so it's not like it has had time to show me if she'll even fruit.

But just thought I would ask, because that color looks kind of strange to me. Took q few pics

Sorry I can't answer your question.  I'm a newb still colonizing my first 6 jars and haven't even gotten to this part but have a question.  What kind of substrate did you use, are those BRF cakes?

How often are you spraying them? Are you giving time between misting for the water to evaporate? Also, is that vermiculite in the bottom?

Potting soil is no good. Look up shotgun monotub,  shoebox,  or monotub. Coir is your friend. Plus you'll probably get more and have to fuck with them.less.

OP, definitely look up an actual fruiting chamber setup. It looks like you're running a tub with no holes (what are you doing for FAE?) and potting soil. Edit: unless you are going for something like Mateah's humidity chamber?

Its coir with a little verm because I put too much excess water. So the verm helped with that.

The lid is ajar. I'm doing the hc yes. I was just wondering about the color.

The "soil" (looks like mostly verm and peat aka, "casing") is absolutely fine for that purpose. Maybe better. Although you may get much much better results if you removed the lids from underneath them, or better yet bury them in it a bit.

Ideally you would pasturize the "soil" before using it like that. But considering there is no visible trich or aspergillus or other molds, just go for it and remove those lids as is. No mist for at least 3 days while they rhizo into the soil. Maybe no more mist at all.

Cakes look fine. maybe a little wet on the surface. good for another 3 flushes at least.

Color is off. Think cotton ball white. Like he said bury or even break up and mix in

Thats just normal bruising, and it's looking too wet, up fae.
Mist when it looks dry and you can mist directly.

Removing the lids would mean the myc woukd start colonizing the coir which is not what I want.

I understand, I was just letting you know my view point. Over moisture can cause more harm that good, hold up a member hit me with a link a couple days ago that was pretty informative.

Sure, if they're going for a humidity chamber setup like I linked which is something I hadn't considered until after posting. And why I edited my comment to add that in shortly after.

Yeah I'm not going to mist. Going to let then dry out a bit and then hit a mist. For now keeping it to the walls for high humidity.

I was just concerned about that color. Because its like a green blue.

It's been years since I've ran cakes, but from what I remember that was pretty much always the norm after dunking, especially after they've already fruited.

Make sure you leave the lid ajar for more fae :thumbup:
