Bruised Cake.. what to do?
    #1552038 - 05/15/03 05:25 PM (20 years, 11 months ago)

Hiya there... Um i know this topic has been covered, but i've done a search and can't find anything on what to actualy do with a bruised cake...

One of me cakes is pretty much blue/grey all over, and has a shit load of spore dust covering it, making it look dreggier than ever...  After the first flush i dunked it in the fridge for 12 hours then plopped it bak into the terrarium... Its been about 5 days since then, and i see nothing happening to the cake, no pinning and no spread of this blue...

I think maybe the cake is so fukin bruised that nothing will happen unless i carefully slice off the blue layer of the cake...  Is this a good idea?  Is ther a better way of making the cake healthy again?  Or should i just case the cake?

My other cake which kinda looks as battered/blue is growing some fine examples of PC Mexicana... why is this cake growing and not the other... blah, blah, blah bklah~!

It can repair the blue on its own, or it may stay for awhile, depends on the health of the cake. I would watch it, but if in 5 days the blue has not gotten any better, that doesnt sound good. You could still keep it in there and wait longer, or you could try and slice off the blue. Although slicing it off would make new blue spots that might not heal.

I wouldnt case the cake unless your sure its not some kind of contamination. Perhaps a dunk in h2o2 / water solution before you case may help a little, but I think you should case before it sits out in the open in the terrarium. Let it fruit, or let it just die.

Upon looking at it just now, it appears to have become a little less blue and there's one pin, but it still looks realy dreggy, i think from the spores... does it matter that the spores were dropped all over the cake?

sorry, i may need to explain myself better, the spores are on the cake from the first flush... i left the shrooms for a day too long and they dropped spores all over the cakes..
